Definitely better than Windows Defender. It's a good product with 0 impact on system resources.

Third party AV are much better and more control from the environment than Windows Defender due to its baseline capabilities policy. ;)

Now comparing both third party AV is a different side of story.

I have a high opinion of Panda. Very good with resources, good with features, good interface, good kill ratio. I've deployed it on hundreds of machines, many of them not very powerful. It's a delight to turn off Windows Defender, including the pre-Win8 edition.

Panda also has a nice privacy policy... doesn't take your personal data. The free version makes profit from toolbar and changing browsers to yahoo search (optional) during install, you can opt out. The User Interface is easy to use and understand. Another good thing about Panda is it doesn't tax the hard drive because its a cloud Antivirus.

I'll probably be using it in the future.
