The weekly -- sometimes daily -- security scares that occur with the Java programming language are starting to remind me of the old whack-a-mole arcade game.

Researchers or hackers discover a major flaw in Java. Java's developer, Oracle, whacks it with a patch. Another mole pops up. Oracle whacks it with a patch. Many experts say Oracle is losing this game, or isn’t trying very hard to win. And computer users are paying the price.

Uninstall it...like Bio and other uses said...no need to do anything ....:D

Correction: I never said to Uninstall Java.

I require Java for work purposes.

However, I do not use that often aside for work purposes.

I did have Java, but not now. But only thing I miss out is instructions when it comes to looking at Spoilers and going to peoples pages. It just shows a light blue box with lines going thru it :)

You need Java for Minecraft (?) and other programs, but I don't think for most parts Java is required in the web browser?

Yes Java is required for Minecraft (any edition).

OpenJDK is a work around (for Minecraft) but for Linux based systems.

That would be a function of Javascript, not Java.

Yes, Javascript is not Java. Even though the names would seem to indicate a relation, they are completely different things.

JRE is the standard Runtime Environment, while JDK is the Developers Kit. If you aren't compiling Java applications, you don't need the JDK.

btw guys i read about download JRE 7u11 not from the website but the one developers uses

here's something to read guys

Thanks HeffeD. I do have javascript on my system, Because many different webpages need it. And my ScriptSafe blocked each page, until I Trust/Allow and I can access. But for MalwareTips site. it is already allowed and still can't see Spoilers or info that is shown on the bottom of some user webpages, Like webpage GUI, of what they have installed on there PC etc. I can access Links/URL just fine.

I think this is something you're doing at your end.

I can't speak for any of the other sites you're visiting, but MalwareTips doesn't use Java for anything. Uninstalling/disabling Java wouldn't have any effect on the forum.

Further enough HeffeD, I do understand, on what you mean. And I know that Java is not used, It's only JavaScript. And I just checked on my setting for Comodo Dragon and JavaScript is running, as Recommended.

So I think I will have to leave it. Mind you, It's only small box that shows. Just like a piece of paper, with a folded edge on one side and it's lite blue on the bottom of it.

Thanks for you advise.

In my opinion, the only user that should keep Java installed is the one that needs it for work. Most websites don't require it for whats important.

I got rid of it 4 years ago and don't miss it. If you uninstall Java, it means that if you go to a website that has a Java exploit, it wont do nothing to you. Its like being immune.

My feelings about plugins in general is the same as how I feel about Java. If you don't need a plugin, uninstall it. Four years ago I had 13 plugins, now I only have one, Flash. I keep Flash because I use Flash otherwise it would be gone.

People that has to have Java and other plugins, I recommend to start using Sandboxie if you are not and if you use Firefox as your browser, learn and use NoScript. For me, NoScript blocks, Sandboxie contains.

You don't need to uninstall it. With the newer versions, you can disable it in your browsers.

Sorry lol,it is hard to remember names, since members here told me days ago (right after some time I joined this community)

I can see everything now. I can see Spoilers and content that was Hidden.

It was K9 Web Protection blocking JavaScript, when I removed K9 Web Protection everything was just fine.

Just thought I update people who may have K9 Web Protection installed.

Thanks
