Many cross platform applications also require Java to operate properly.

Oh, that's the date in the title, then laughed at "Update 55".
Looking at related threads, this time last year I counted 34 releases in 12 months, wow.

If anyone is interested, they can create their own custom virtual browser with Java, provided by Spoon.

Or if you use it for desktop applications, update anyway. If not, because you have no use for it, uninstall Java.
