Hot Take Kaspersky is overestimated, while Microsoft defender is underestimated

🤣 Aren't you yourself cautious? If "common" users take you as a behavior model, wouldn't we all be looking for a more leading-edge free solution, despite the common user advice?
What @Parkinsond said from what I understand, the common people they are referring to, are people who are not aware of the risks that the web offers, and also do not participate in forums like MT, when they participate, they enter the forum to ask for help in removing malware. I'm not generalizing, there are people who register here on MT because they finished college or graduated from a professional IT course and want to learn more, make new friends, share their experiences. Here on MT there are many people who use MD or K and many other products from different types of AV manufacturers. But, most of the members here are people who already have a certain level of knowledge and also experience already acquired years ago and many for decades and there are many veterans here. So, any member here who fits those characteristics I mentioned of an "ordinary" user can use MD without any problems. I myself have a machine with MD and another with K installed without problems and I use both without any problems. :)BTW I apologize for parachuting into your conversations literally speaking. (y) PS. Don't go off topic. Otherwise the moderator may close it. Remember the title of the post involves Kaspersky and Microsoft defender. ;)

All security products by major vendors are good; the difference between regarding protection is not wide.
Just choose the product most suitable for your use and your PC performance; if you are getting infected or not is a matter of your practice, rather than your security suite.
By the way, I enjoy spending time here learning too many useful stuff; I am in the medical field but my son is studying computer and information science.

"I’ve been saying this for years: all major brands offer similar levels of protection. Some malware may bypass one solution and not another, but every product will miss something. Choose your antivirus based on price, impact on your daily performance, and ease of use, in your opinion. Also, not all solutions are optimal for every use case. For instance, if you need good detection on a computer that will be offline most of the time, you should choose a product with strong signature-based detection and behavior analysis that doesn't rely heavily on the cloud.

Exactly, I believe that many products, especially paid ones, differ only in the additional features, while free products focus more on the basics.

This is also true of performance, not everyone has a computer or laptop like mine or yours, some older and some younger, taking into social class the countries they live in.

+1 I like it too, since you started posting here more often, I've started to follow your posts more closely. I myself say that I'm living and learning. Look, that's great medicine, you're seeing a very good area too, I'm glad to hear it. Yes, don't give up, help your son graduate, tell him not to get discouraged, it's an excellent profession too, it has a future and it's worth studying.

Forgive me for asking, but how could you divide my reply into three segments to be able to reply to each segment separately?

It's simple, although @mlnevese answered your question. Don't worry, everything has a first time. If you've worked with HTML you can do anything. Although not even that, here in MT it's quite easy, like Dreamweaver and maybe not even that similar FrontPage - have you heard that it came with Office? Microsoft FrontPage was discontinued in 2006. There's no secret to it.

Although I like PC, my computer knowledge is limited; just how to install Windows and applications, secure my system as much as possible, and trying not to make stupid acts 😅

Yes and no.
there is large gap even between major brands in false positive detection.
Yes, final result will show about 100% protection for almost all brands but with very diffent user experience.
Case in point, according to AV-Comparative as far as false positives, F-Secure's "remarkably many" even though the detection was right up there with the rest of them. Kaspersky in this report, excellent.

For advanced users or alpha & beta tester :

Be carefull giving permission to a third party app with the same API as Windows security essential (defender is built in)

i recommend to uninstall all your av third party app for business purpose or if you have higly sensitive data (check the sandbox evasion youtube media) :

i recommend also to use a Windows defender online NOT offline, it's nearly 3 dollars per year for 300 users and 5 machine (of course you will have admin rights with no eyes drop).

for this online protection i recommend to use a Windows LTSC (and get rid of any windows defender AV offline) up to date

you can find it on Windows LTSC Download | MAS (check the hash of course &/OR the signature inside the file WITH a valid certificate)

and use a github command line app inside a sandbox : GitHub - ionuttbara/windows-defender-remover: A tool which is uses to remove Windows Defender in Windows 8.x, Windows 10 (every version) and Windows 11.

this command line etical hack tool is for (you can easly analyse it before excecute it) :

"This application removes / disables Windows Defender, including the Windows Security App, Windows Virtualization-Based Security (VBS), Windows SmartScreen, Windows Security Services, Windows Web-Threat Service, Windows File Virtualization (UAC), Microsoft Defender App Guard, Microsoft Driver Block List, System Mitigations and the Windows Defender page in the Settings App on Windows 10 or later."
