Hi, I hope you can help me, I really like the KDE Plasma desktop environment, the only thing that I unfortunately don't like (I don't know if it's a bug or a feature) is that the automatic sorting of icons on the desktop doesn't stay set. Every time I create a new file even if I previously set the automatic sorting of icons, the file doesn't come in order under the other icons, but I have to reset the automatic sorting with the right mouse button. This is very annoying for me and it doesn't use the KDE Plasma desktop environment that I find really nice. Do you know how to solve this problem?

I tried with various distros, but the problem/bug persists.

Thanks.

Hi! This seems to be a known issue with KDE Plasma. Currently, there's no permanent fix. However, you could try a workaround: right-click on the desktop, choose 'Icons' > 'Sort Icons' > 'By Name'. You'll need to do this every time you add a new icon. Alternatively, you can report this issue to the KDE Plasma developers for a potential future fix.

Are you talking about the icons on the desktop, which don't stay in the same order when you restart? You can see it in the screenshot below if that's what you mean. :)

No, not by saying this, the icons on the desktop remain in the same order after reboot.
What I mean is that when I create a new file or folder on the desktop it is created anywhere on the desktop, it is not sorted under the last file. To sort it under the last file I have to right-click and choose the automatic icon sorting setting every time.
This setting is not always saved until I decide to change the setting. On the Cinnamon desktop environment, in Zorin, for example this does not happen, as well as in Windows. This only happens on the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Now I understand, sorry for the misunderstanding. In the KDE Plasma desktop, does it save the session as it does in XFCE? I can test it here on mint to see.

That's pretty annoying, I like KDE Plasma too. Just a question without going off topic. Does Linux Mint Cinnamon use more resources than XFCE? Or is it imperceptible?
Mint Cinnamon I found it quite fluid and light on a 15 year old dual core laptop with 4 GB of RAM and an SSD. I would say it is a good option. I have not tried XFCE. The Cinnamon desktop environment is not bad, but it seems a little old... Obviously with the necessary customizations maybe it will improve in appearance. However I am now testing Zorin OS 17.3 and I must say that I like it a lot and it has nice graphics. Obviously at the moment in my opinion the best graphics are those of KDE Plasma. Too bad for this little inconvenience that I hope they will solve as soon as possible. I also reported it to them via email, hopefully they will listen to me...

I downloaded the ISO of Zorin OS 17.3 on 08/05 and I haven't tested it yet, I need to test it, otherwise it will end up forgotten. I liked it when I watched a review.
Zorin was one of first distro I used (this go around with linux) I liked it fine but as I re-familiarized myself with linux, I went with more "linuxy" distro as Zorin is aiming for windows users. Fedora is now my fav linux. (fwiw)

This is a known issue with KDE Plasma where the automatic sorting of desktop icons does not consistently save your settings.
Does Linux Mint Cinnamon use more resources than XFCE?
Cinnamon use more resources than XFCE. XFCE, lighter on both RAM and CPU.

I know that cinnamon desktop environment looks old by default, but you can customize it to look more modern, here is an example for my LMDE:

I suggest you try it, it is very nice and efficient.
That's great @Nunzio_77 Thanks for your feedback! I can't thank you enough, it filled my eyes when I saw the desktop. There's even the weather on the taskbar. BTW that start menu and desktop that @lokamoka820 showed is Zorin OS 17.3? I have an ISO and I haven't installed it? Wow, I'm going to install it today. Thanks a lot!

Thank you very much, for your feedback. I hadn't seen your comment and neither had @lokamoka820. It had gone unnoticed by me. I can't wait to try Zorin OS, there's a lot of positive feedback about this distro.(y)

What a distro with a beautiful, minimalist start menu and desktop, I loved it right away, love at first sight. Is this KDE Plasma? Thanks for sharing, I hadn't seen your comment today. Now I understand why @Nunzio_77 likes KDE Plasma, it's very beautiful, he's right, it looks like a modern Operating System, it reminds me a bit of Win11. 💯;)
Cinnamon use more resources than XFCE. XFCE, lighter on both RAM and CPU.
Thank you very much for the information, because it seems that XFCE is lighter in this regard in terms of RAM and CPU consumption, it is balanced between the graphic interface that is not so ugly, and does not consume a lot of resources, although there is LXDE and LXQt which are both lighter desktop environments for Linux, but XFCE is prettier and kind of balances it out. (y)

Although I've already replied to your comment. I thank you once again, because if you hadn't answered my comment when I was online, your comment might have gone unnoticed, because there are so many notifications I receive here. Thanks for the info. I'm going to test and install the Zorin OS distro today.

The desktop is not Zorin 17.3 but if I'm @lokamoka820 not mistaken it's Cinnamon.
This is my Zorin 17.3 desktop that I customized a bit. Then if you want you can also download and install other themes to customize it to your taste.
Okay, I get it. But Zorin 17.3 is nice too, I like it. The graphical interface looks familiar and very user-friendly as far as you can tell. Do you think 50GB is enough to install Zorin 17.3, is that more than enough space?

I think so. However, it is also quite light and fluid. At least on my dual core laptop, 4GB RAM with a 512GB SSD.

@piquiteco the distro in my image is Linux Mint the Debian edition, and it is similar to Linux Mint but over Debian base rather than Ubuntu, the desktop is Cinnamon as @Nunzio_77 mentioned, but I customized it to look like this, I can share the setup if you like it.

About XFCE, it is very efficient for old laptops, it is ugly by default but can be easily customized to be more elegant.
