I have Ubuntu on Lenovo Y50-70 with every feature: 4K, touchscreen, Nvidia 960M, etc.
The result? Completely trash. I almost never use touchscreen. Many applications don't work with 4K. Nvidia pretty much broken on Ubuntu, and I never needed it really. 5 lbs. not optimal to carry around. It was designed for Windows 8.1, but had some problems with Windows 10 compatibility when it was released last July. A few weeks ago, Windows broke. Laptop needed to be shipped twice in 6 months for hinge repairs (luckily I still have warranty). Now, I always suspend my laptop without closing the lid unless I have to. Battery drains in an hour or two.
Looking into the future, I am planning to get a laptop that suits me better. Here are my requirements:

Looking into the future, I am planning to get a laptop that suits me better. Here are my requirements:
- Portable. Must be 1 or 2 pounds max. Also must be thin.
- Long battery life. I mean, I can use it somewhere and forget my charger and still be able to last. Preferred 12 hours, at least 6 hours.
- Good quality. Built to last, will not break at all.
- No touchscreen.
- No ultra-high resolution display. 1920 by 1080 is good. Prefer resolutions that applications can work with.
- No reflecting screens. These 4K screens are like mirrors. Harder to use under sunlight.
- Good display. Accurate colors, super high/low brightness.
- Works with Linux, aka compatible with major Linux distros.
- Good CPU. I do prefer Intel i7 CPUs (i5 at least), but they don't have to be the latest generation (at least 5th gen). They do need to have decent computational power, like around 3 GHz.
- Decent integrated graphics. No discrete GPUs until they fix up their driver support (I don't think they will). Intel Iris preferred, 5th gen at least.
- Abundant memory. 16 GB preferred, 8 GB otherwise.
- Good storage space. At least 256 GB SSD or 1 TB HDD or hybrids.
- Decent sound. Sound cannot be too bad.
- Decent touchpad. Need to be able to move mouse around with ease, and click with ease. Lenovo uses these red things for controlling the mouse; these ones are very good for me.
- Budget. Try to stay under $1K, try not to exceed 1.5K unless really necessary. Do not exceed 2K.
- I don't need Macs.
