The Document Foundation announces that the fourth maintenance version for the LibreOffice 4.3.x branch is now available for download. It's mostly about bugfixes, so it's a very good idea to upgrade the software stack as soon as possible.
The developers from The Document Foundation have released a new update for the very successful LibreOffice 4.3.x branch after only one RC, which doesn't happen all that often.
Usually, there are at least a couple of intermediary versions, but the devs have managed to fix everything that was needed in just one go. It's not a big update and it should land in various repos pretty soon.
The LibreOffice stack is updated much more frequently now than it used to be, and the devs are committed to providing a top-of-the-line office suite. LibreOffice is getting adopted by city administration and businesses, so the Foundation needs to have everything working, preferably out of the box.
Granted, there still are a lot of things to implement, especially for the compatibility with Microsoft Office, but the maintainers are slowly improving the suite and fixing all the major issues.
LibreOffice 4.3.4 has dozens of fixes
The new LibreOffice suite version has no new features, but that shouldn't deter people from upgrading. For example, the slide pane cut/copy/paste has been fixed, the RTF import has been improved, some XLSX chart improvements have been implemented, and the DOCX import function has been refined.
"The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 4.3.4, the fourth minor release of LibreOffice 4.3 'fresh' family, which is a stable release of the more advanced version of the software, and is targeted to users focusing on features. LibreOffice 4.3.4 contains over 60 bug fixes," write the developers.
How to install it
The Document Foundation only provides the source packages, but they also have a PPA for Ubuntu users. It hasn't been updated just yet with the new LibreOffice version, but it's a matter of hours. All you need to do is to run a few commands in a terminal (with root) and you will have an up-to-date version of the suite in no time:
<>code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
For now, the PPA doesn't have the latest version, but that should change soon. You can also download the LibreOffice 4.3.4 source packages from Softpedia, if you want to compile them yourself.
