According to sites like AV-Comparatives, the best ones given a combination of real-time protection, malware protection, and system performance are Avast and Bitdefender, as well as AVG.

I just switched over to AVG from Avast, much more install and forget than Avast, and same speed and protection. Both AVG and Avast have an ultimate version

@Lavamate doesn't include K, I assume for political reasons and because he was banned from the USA. Then there are people who are a bit nervous after this episode, especially if they work for a government institution. I have K Standard on my machine, but my vote went to Eset because K wasn't listed in the poll. I respect other people's opinions if I don't use it because of that.

Bitdefender is always clearly listed as a resource hog - otherwise it’s good if that’s not a concern. Only Kaspersky does all well in one, including lightness on system resource but seems user doesn’t like it due to political reasons although company hasnt been caught doing anything

So guys, after setting up a VM a few days ago and testing a few programs there, I've finally decided to go with Eset. AVG came in second, but I decided against it, even though it fulfilled all the functions I was actually looking for. But somehow, I also felt more comfortable continuing to support a European software company.

It doesn't have the Sandbox feature like Avast. Otherwise it's very good.
