Any help would be much appreciated. I'm somewhat competent with computers but I just can't seem to get rid of this thing using the usual methods and programs.

Hi,

First, go to Control Panel and uninstall following (skip lines that cannot be uninstalled):
- Adobe Reader X
- Java 7 Update 13
- Java 7 Update 7
- Keyword Optimizer Pro 2

Latest versions of Java and Adobe Reader available here --> http://www.java.com/en/ and here http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
Make sure to uncheck optional offers.

***** NEXT *****

Download attached fixlist.txt on the same location as FRST (otherwise the fix won't work)
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to the operating system

Open FRST, and click Fix. Attach me that report after it is finished.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I uninstalled all the programs you listed but when I tried to uninstall Java 7 Update 7, it ran it's course but never disappeared from my list of programs.

Here's the log after running FRST with the script

If you are unsure how to do this please read this or this Instruction.
  • Double click on zoek.exe to run the tool .
Please wait while the tool does not start...
  • Copy the text present inside the code box below and paste it into the large window in the zoek tool:

    Code:

Note: It will also create a log in the C:\ directory named "zoek-results.log"

I can recommend you this software to avoid Adware in the future. Unchecky is very light and install and forget program. It works in background and has auto update feature, so beleive me you will forget it is installed.

http://unchecky.com/

Read here how it works --> http://www.howtogeek.com/179758/how-to-avoid-junkware-offers-with-unchecky/

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

=> Please download DelFix by Xplode to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;
checkmark.png
Remove disinfection tools
checkmark.png
Create registry backup
checkmark.png
Purge System Restore

Click Run button and wait a few seconds for the programme completes his work.
At this point all the tools we used here should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Awesome, cleaned everything up. Thanks again! Seems to be running better than before I noticed the issues.
