Things I'd suggest doing:

- Set User Account Control to Always Notify
- Add a second opinion scanner such as Zemana Antimalware, HitmanPro or Norton Power Eraser
- I'd suggest switching to a more secure browser such as Chrome or Firefox and adding HTTPS Everywhere and an ad blocker such as uBlock Origin or Adguard to it
- Use a password manager such as Lastpass or Keepass to generate and store unique passwords for each account
- You could add a second real-time solution such as Xvirus, Voodooshield or Comodo Firewall to bolster Windows Defender's defences

Internet Explorer's boring.
You're probably already safe by you already being here and not asking questions about an infection.
Probably want to change from IE though since Microsoft might just axe it.

Have you considered moving to Windows 10?
I would suggest elevating UAC to max.
What do you use for backups as you should implement some type of system & data backup solution.
Consider the Chrome extensions already suggested as well as CCleaner or Privazer.
