I reset my router and for now I can use Google again. Should I do anything to make my router more secure and prevent this from happening again, assuming the problem is the router?

I primarily use Firefox. I am getting an error that says "This connection is untrusted" when I try to use google.
If you have any software that monitors/modifies HTTPS, install their security certificate: Go to hamburger icon/firefox button>Options>Advanced>Certificate>View Installed Certificates to check if your certificate is installed. If not, go to Import and select certificate. Hope this helps :)

Your router probably has nothing to do with the PUP.Conduit. If I am wrong, PM or reply to me. The message by firefox was an invalid certificate problem

Chromatinfish, what certificate am I looking for in the installed certificates list? What do you mean by my certificate?

Also, if the problem is the certificate, why does Google work sometimes and sometimes not work?

Firefox looks up https sites using certificates to see if they are valid. Applications that filter https are required to have a certificate to work. A lot of applications do this, so I cannot answer the second question. Normally the GUI of the program will have an "install certificate" option.

If the program is turned off, or the connection to the program/server is no longer active, Google will not work. If it is with Google only, and you have valid internet connection, then the site might have been hacked or a virus is on your computer that is redirecting to a fake Google site. If none of these criteria fit you, a virus might be on your computer redirecting all sites to different sites. If you resetted Firefox before, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ into the Start Menu and import the profile to Firefox (only if profile is valid and hasn't already been imported). If this is confusing to you, ignore me and follow advice at these sites:

How to import profiles:

Do not download anything from anyone here unless it is a certified malware removal expert. This is just a small tweak.

Above post simplified ^^
Sites don't work always & Valid Internet Connection= Certificate Missing
Only one site works/doesn't work & Valid Internet Connection= Server Disconnected, Virus or Malware hijack, or Router disconnected temporarily
No sites work & No Valid Internet Connection= Router Disconnected, ISP's connection failure, or Coax Cable Disconnected
