IDM purchase is one-time payment. There are no any additional annual fees. The license will be valid for your lifetime.

For 15 years while we sell IDM, we never charged for updates. But we plan to do this in the future. In any case it will consider only updates from one major version to another, for example from version 6 to 7. All security updates in one major version will always be free. And license still will be lifetime.​

Before purchasing the IDM licenses I contacted their support asking if it's a life-time and will be updated after 1 year. Dave Saeger from the IDM support told me that it's lifetime and currently all updates are free even after 1 year. If it is stopped working you should contact their support to fix it. If they refuse you may refer to this page:

I don't think that is there difference if the key is purchased or won. There is no 1 year license but the only life-time. Contact them to clarify this issue. However, they can ask you to submit the invoice:
