I been using McAfee for Years until last year. For the past 4 years McAfee has been giving me problems, Got tired of the slow scanning, slow updates, it was a major resource hog which lagged my PC like mad mostly when it was updating and I had a pretty good PC.
I had about 5 nasty infections with a fully updated McAfee.
So I got tired of it and got rid of it, Did some research and became a fan of Norton, Kaspersky, and Avast. I had these three in the past and never regretted it.

I loved McAfee's Site Advisor but I'm not a big fan of its Artemis (It produced many FP's)

From the past previous test from AV-Comparatives, McAfee made a low graded results due to Artemis that produced huge FP exceed on the limits.

90% on the detection likely from Artemis.

James Artemis is not a hueristics it is actually the cloud based infrastructure of mcaffee for analyzing and pushing updates.

My uncles HCL laptop came preinstalled with 14months McAffee Internet Security. After it expired i uninstalled it. Amazingly the slow laptop became zippy. Sort of a resource hog i suppose. But dont know how 2012 has improved.

Usually mcaffe just changed their name every year from 2011 to 2013 to 2013 etc. The new features come as and when required. The concept of a new version every 12months is not there. I cannot see any new features added since v2010 in mcaffe. Thats power going. But their enterprise edition is popular though.

Exactly your right, I've read it shortly and from this link 1, describes that Artemis is known as enhanced heuristics component.
