McAfee is an American antivirus that, like Norton, is often found on computers assembled by major brands.
Like its competitor Norton, McAfee has had a bad reputation for many years: heavy, inefficient, bug-ridden and, above all, hell to uninstall.
Bought out by Intel, McAfee has evolved in recent years to become more coherent, lighter and more cloud-based.
Let's take a look!

Interface :

McAfee finally abandons its old-fashioned, messy interfaces and focuses on simplicity.
But the firm has made a compromise: in addition to simplicity, advanced configuration has disappeared... McAfee therefore targets novice users, as the software is ready to use straight out of the box!
In terms of power consumption, a great deal of work has gone into the software, which uses just 250MB of RAM.

Web protection: 12/12
All links blocked by McAfee

Fake crack : 1/1
Blocked

Malware Pack : Remaining 11 threats out of 121
McAfee's progress is impressive: its scans are now very fast, and so is removal!
On the execution side, McAfee has also managed to catch up with several scripts, either by blocking connections (but does not warn), or by blocking the Payload once in progress (and then warns).
Only 1 piece of malware remains in memory (a fake Discord) but is totally inactive.

Final scan :
McAfee : 0
EEK : 0

Final opinion:

McAfee has come a long way in recent years, and is becoming more efficient.
I really like the change in direction the company has taken: simplicity and efficiency. McAfee is finally becoming consistent in terms of protection, juggling its database, Machine Learning AI and the Cloud.
On the other hand, the disappearance of advanced settings will clearly upset advanced users, but McAfee doesn't cater to them (like Trendmicro).
McAfee is an antivirus I'd recommend.

Dang, very impressive result! I tried McAfee myself a few months ago and was surprised with how light it is. I didn't test how good the protection was but looks like It's pretty good!

I constantly see users on Reddit saying to avoid McAfee like the plague because it's heavy and does not protect you. I try to educate them, but they won't have any of it, they can't understand that McAfee changes in recent years, lol.

I will go ahead and ask. How is McAfee on data collection?

C.H.
this too is my concern. I am running Trendmicro on another VM and when I went go to dnscheck.tools, it found 40 amazom DNS servers, which disappeared when I disabled TM. I was advised to expect the same thing with McAfee, maybe @Shadowra could look at that or explain whether this a privacy / security issue.

I don't think it's as bad as others like Avast/AVG. Because McAfee and TM are both cloud AVs, you can expect it to connect online more than other AVs. I use ControlD, and it blocks way more domains with Avast/AVG than McAfee.

So mcafee has been experimenting with new colors with the installer. They need to make the GUI this color its amazing!

I'm all the more intrigued by McAfee now that you've suggested you would recommend it. AV Comparatives has presented it quite favorably in recent times. It's hard to remember how long it's been since I honestly tried it out, lol. Considering how budget friendly it is, I'll probably take a closer look.

The new McAfee is lean, mean and includes vast number of tools that block spam and scam. Such as the deepfake detector, the email scanning features, social network monitoring, personal account monitoring and data cleanup. McAfee also features very efficient dangerous website blocking system-wide (from all apps) and pre-execution as well as post-execution machine learning.

CPU and memory usage are also highly acceptable.

We are used to hating McAfee but the software has evolved to offer modern protection, with a user interface that doesn’t make a big deal out of things (for example when threat is detected). There are no nags and ads either.

I suppose once you have a 'bad name' it's hard to shake that reputation off!

Many people hate McAfee because, as I said, the company has had a bad reputation for years (like Norton, Microsoft Defender and even Avast! which was a real sieve in version 4.8...). )
What has become of these antivirus products? They've started from scratch and are now shining in terms of security.

Unfortunately, we've also seen antivirus products that used to be excellent, only to fall flat on their face... This is the case of Panda, which was revolutionary in 2009/2010 (the 1st to integrate Cloud technology into a mass-market AV), but is now struggling to combat current threats....

Although rather revolutionary, Panda was always heavy, buggy and was a very well known BSOD generator. The McAfee software, although slow to install (the installation time is now about 10 sec), did maintain some quality. Detection was another question.

Btw off-topic but AMSI integration was finally added to Panda/WatchGuard. May be time to test it
