It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

Gdata is a well-known German antivirus.
For several years, it has offered its flagship antivirus on 2 engines, Bitdefender (Engine A) and its engine called CloseGap (Engine B - since 2014 - formerly under Avast!) .
The publisher has made few changes to this version, but is as solid as ever in keeping with its philosophy.
Let's take a look.

Interface :

Gdata's interface is getting very old as it hasn't changed since 2014! That's 12 years!
No change, Gdata retains its philosophy.
But it has made a few changes: Gdata has become lighter than before and has included some improvements on the defensive side (DeepRay, BEAST etc)
The software is also directly ready to use, the editor has set everything up so that the user doesn't have to worry about it.

Web protection: 10/11
Everything was blocked except for one URL that got through and one that I'm not counting: the file won't open.

Fake crack : N/A
The sample is too old and the site that distributed it was down.
Skipped.

Malware Pack : 13 out of 101 threats remain
Gdata still has an excellent scanner—that’s a fact.
While the 2025 edition was a disaster, Gdata has managed to raise the bar by demonstrating greater maturity in detecting unknown software.
The product performed well, combining C&C server blocking, BEAST, and a DeepRay response.
The machine didn't suffer much damage; only two remote control tools (ConnectWise) are present and can be removed.

Final scan :
Avast : 0
NPE : 2
KVRT : 4

Final opinion:

Gdata has made significant progress in detecting unknown malware.
While version 2025 was a disaster, the developer appears to have addressed those issues in this 2026 release.
It is once again recommended.

After reviewing your last 10 tests, the best outcome was achieved by ESET Internet Security v19.

Good AV but bit of a lottery/hit and miss in my testing. Recommended if license is cheap in your country.

I still don't think it is that light though nor does AV comparatives.

Best signature coverage in the industry.

Thanks for the review Shadowra.

Yea that interface needs a facelift.

Also, last time I tested it, it caught a program I use a lot and thought it was a virus, even though no one else did. Now this is ok, but it wouldn't allow me to add an exemption or reverse the process in any way.

Thanks for the review. I don't like the interface. It looks so outdated. GData was a good product. Like with any software, there were issues with it, but at least they pay attention to it and fix the problems. And here are the questions that matter to me: How much does it slow down the computer, how much does it slow down web browsing, and to what extent might it cause a drop in FPS while gaming?
