MediaFire is launching the public beta of MediaFire Desktop, free apps for OSX and Windows, enabling users to instantly upload, collaborate and share their media in the cloud, directly from their desktop.

The company designed MediaFire Desktop to complement its online storage service, thus allowing users to synchronize their online and locally stored files with very little effort. This means that you can back up important work, share pictures and media with friends and family, or keep them all just for yourself.

The company offers some 50GB of free storage space, which means there’s plenty of room for most of your files.

Along with the new apps, MediaFire has also overhauled the online interface, making sharing, editing and viewing the files extremely easy, even when directly from the cloud. Furthermore, it’s now possible to get your audio and video files in top quality even when on the go.

“With MediaFire Desktop, we looked to create an intuitive, easy to use application that extends your operating system into the cloud, while giving you complete control over your online storage, “ said MediaFire President and CEO, Derek Labian.

“With the Launch of MediaFire Desktop and our new overhauled Web UI, we are creating the foundation for first seamless cloud designed specifically for media,” he continues.

MediaFire Desktop offers seamless integration with the cloud directly from OSX Finder and Windows Explorer Windows, automatic file synchronization and a bunch of social tools, allowing you to share files with friends on various platform.

You will also get notified about any updates made to your files, new files received from contacts and system status message, as well as a screenshot capturing tool.

On the web, MediaFire now offers easy access to files and what look like a million sharing options, automatic audio and video transcoding and social file management, meaning you can give your files over through Facebook, Twitter and email.

The service is free up to 50GB of storage space, although it will take some steps to get from the original 10GB to 50GB, such as linking to you Facebook and Twitter accounts and personalizing your profile. There is also a Pro Plan for the service, offering from 100 to 500 GB, with prices varying from $4.99 to $24.99 (€3.70 to €18.56) per month.

Businesses can get access to lot more space, from as little as 1TB to a massive 100TB. The price for these packages starts at $49.99 and goes up to $2,799.99 (€37.13 to €2,080) per month
