I'm wondering if version 2026 is coming out. It's not just about changing the graphical interface; the sandbox needs improvement because it's full of holes... proven by the community. And please improve the malware detection because it's ridiculous.

The age of the video is not relevant.
Windows XP (the main OS of the time video was made) only had a (inbound) firewall, Vista (released three years after that video was made) added UAC, Windows 7 added Defender with only AntiSpyware, in Windows 10 Defender was upgraded to full antivirus (with protection percentages comparable to Comodo AV in 2025) and added Exploit Protection, Windows 11 extended the number Attack Surface Reduction Rules and introduced application whitelisting with SAC with Defender scoring decent (top tier) results in AV-test and AV-comparatives (and tweaked with Andy Full's utilities also performed good in Shadowra's tests).

Forgive when the above security improvements are not accurated (it wrote it from memory). The landscape has changed a lot since 2006, so how can the age of that video (which is clearly posted in the context of that time) not be relevant? In 2006 it was (and still is) applaudable to provide security freeware, but at that time (in 2006) the freeware AV's were crippled versions of the paid AV's. Just have a look how well Avast Free scores in tests nowadays.

Assuming you want to make a statement by posting it, please explain what is the point you are making by posting a 20 year old video?

The video is educational and informational.

I have no agenda to make any statement.

The 20 year old video content is as relevant today as it was back then because everything Melih stated is not dependent upon the state of technology in 2006. Plus he says the very same things today as he did 20 years ago.

So to make a video relevant I need to ask Melih to remake the video with a date stamp and posting date of 2025 or 2026 - even though he just repeats what he said in 2006?

You say you have no agenda, but you post the video because you find it educational and informational (that in itself is a contradiction), so it seems you have the urge to inform and educate others.

Being not a native English speaker I looked up what the difference is between informational and educational, but as far as I understand something is informational when it is educational, so the two sort of overlap each other. Another defintion says something is informational when it is full of (new) facts, but the the video is not full of facts, it is the Comodo's CEO mission/opinion ??? (don't want to go into a discussion about the newness of facts in a 20 year old video).

Could you explain the educational message of the video to me (since I don't seem to grab it).

You’re bringing a spec sheet to a theology debate.

You’re right, obviously. Comparing the security landscape of XP, back when firewalls were just "inbound" suggestions, to the fortress of Windows 11 is pointless from a technical standpoint. The architecture has shifted. The threat model has shifted.

But you’re missing the "educational" point because you’re looking for data. This isn't about the OS. It's about the "ideology". The "Default Deny" mantra doesn't care about UAC or Exploit Protection, it’s a worldview that assumes everything is a threat until proven otherwise. That doesn't age. It just gets more annoying.

You're asking for a changelog. They're quoting scripture. Pour a drink and move on.

Someone else wrote a book describing their motives but they worded it as their struggle. I just can't recall who wrote that.

OK, thanks, but one last question is the theology like debate about blacklisting versus whitelisting or Comodo fans and critics? (I want to stay away from this kind of discussions)

Mhh again not a native English speaker seems to miss what you are hinting on. Glad you use plural (their struggle) not singular, because that author had really bad motives

It’s a distinction without a difference, really.

The "theology" refers to the core security philosophy, Default Deny (whitelisting) versus Default Allow (blacklisting). One assumes everything unknown is a threat until proven safe, the other assumes things are safe until a signature says otherwise. That’s the doctrine.

But you can’t separate the scripture from the congregation. The debate is technically about the tech, but in practice, it’s fueled entirely by the Comodo fans vs. critics dynamic. You’re asking if the war is about the map or the territory, it’s both. If you want to avoid the friction, you're probably in the wrong thread.

@Divergent

OK thanks for the warning (y) I see @bazang has posted another video of his soulmate without any comment, so I will stay away from it

One thing surprises me though, you seem to be supporting his posts with explanations and context. ;)

Sir Guy de la Bruyère? Sounds like a character from a romance novel my aunt reads. Or a cheap brandy that gives you a headache before you open the bottle.

I’m not carrying anyone’s shield. I’m just the guy in the corner booth explaining why the bar fight started. There’s a distinct difference between being a squire and being an anthropologist. `bazang` is posting artifacts, I’m just reading the museum labels.

If pointing out the ideological roots of the "Default Deny" cult looks like support to you, you might need to adjust your contrast. I’m just here for the spectacle. And the irony. Hook, line and sinker.
