Microsoft has recently published online what seems to be the central hub for extensions that can run on Edge, the new Windows 10 browser which replaces Internet Explorer as the default option in the new OS.

We’ve known for a while that Microsoft is working on extensions and the company itself confirmed this project, but according to people close to the matter, the official launch has been delayed because work isn’t advancing at the pace that the company aimed for in the first place.

But according to this new “accidental” website unveiling, the debut of Microsoft Edge browser extensions is very close and the Redmond-based software giant could now be giving the final touches to a first version allowing us to try them out.

Extensions not yet working
The website that was published earlier today and spotted by Twitter user @h0x0d points to just two different browser extensions, namely Pinterest and Reddit Enhancement Suite, both of which could be installed by simply clicking the download button on the said page. And yet, none of the two can be used just yet, as the existing builds of Windows 10 and Edge browser do not support extensions.

Microsoft has already removed the website after it discovered the “mistake,” but the two extensions are already up for grabs from Mega, so you can still further inspect them if you wish. Keep in mind that you can’t run them on the current versions of Windows 10.

Nice that they are working on it. But if you have to manually extract a zip folder and copy it to a Edge folder, then I guess that not that much people are going to use extensions or being aware that they are available. Why not an extensions catalog where you browse to your favorite extension, click on install and done, its present in your browser, like every other famous browser? Not that the proces of manually download and copy it to that folder is that difficult, but for less experienced computer users, it's a too difficult thing to do, especially when you can do it in a much simpler way with that 'click and use it' proces like I said.

It does show that in "Preview releases Microsoft extensions are added manually" so hopefully this will not be the case in and when they do add extensions.
If it requires maually adding extensions,as @kev216 pointed out above it will be a problem to those average users.

That implementation goes same like in Google Chrome, Opera and few others where that should label as developers package configuration where it needs to install manually. Other than that it should highlight carefully the majority simple step to install it.

Anyway good to see that Microsoft as a plan to launch an extension website by accident where it can be verified very well from the details before to be published many times.
