Microsoft is once again planning to alter the way its Start Screen works in Windows 8.1 Update 1. While the software giant originally released Windows 8.1 last year with an option to bypass the "Metro" interface at boot, sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have revealed to The Verge that the upcoming update for Windows 8.1 will enable this by default. Like many other changes in Update 1, we’re told the reason for the reversal is to improve the OS for keyboard and mouse users.

I think this might be good for the OS.This might sell most of those that don't like and won't use Win 8.Maybe this will get them to really explore the new OS and it's features and advantages.

Agreed!:)

They really should go all the way and just make the Start button functional. Windows 8 is a very nice OS without the Grand unification drivel of metro. And as Tihiy has done this already with StartisBack (and done it so elegantly- explorer.exe will call up a modified dll by the author instead of twinui.dll garbage by MSFT).

That part will not be much of a change for me, as i already have windows 8.1 booting to desktop.
