Microsoft has now released Office LTSC 2024, the new fixed release of Microsoft Office. It will serve as the base for the consumer-focused Microsoft Office 2024 package, which is expected to arrive soon.

Microsoft announced Office LTSC 2024 back in March, as the new Long-Term Servicing Channel release of the Office package and succeeding Office LTSC 2021. It’s intended as an alternative to the subscription-based Microsoft 365, without the feature updates and cloud integration. Office LTSC also doesn’t have support for any Copilot AI features, which normally need a Microsoft 365 subscription and a separate Copilot Pro subscription.

Office LTSC 2024 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (the classic version, not the new web-based Outlook), OneDrive, OneNote, and (on Windows) Microsoft Access. It can be installed on one PC or Mac at a time, and it does not unlock features in the Office mobile apps or web apps. It will be supported for five years with security fixes, but no new features will roll out.

I'm still (and will remain) using Office 2016 as the previous two versions (2019 and 2021) added nothing to the product except annoyances. What is needed in the 2024 version is a regression and not any shiny new and pointless features.

LOL, I may have that beat. I'm still using Office 2010 on a Windows 7 PC that I use (offline) 2-5 times a week.

You Can Now Buy Microsoft Office 2024

Microsoft has released a new one-time purchase version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. Microsoft Office 2024 is available to purchase starting today, but a Microsoft 365 subscription or a free alternative probably makes more sense for most people.

Microsoft Office Home 2024 and Office Home & Business 2024 can now be purchased from the company’s online store. They’re the new standalone one-time purchase versions of the classic Office apps, replacing the previous 2021 editions. If you don’t like subscriptions, but you still really want the modern Office desktop apps, this is the package for you.

Microsoft Office 2024 includes the desktop applications for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, with a license to install them on one PC or Mac. It doesn’t unlock features in the mobile Office apps, and there’s no support for Copilot AI features, even if you have a valid Copilot Pro subscription. Microsoft said in a blog post, “Microsoft 365 is the best way to access the latest versions of the productivity apps that millions of people use every day to bring their ideas to life and power through tasks. But we know some of our customers still prefer a non-subscription way to access our familiar apps, which is why we’re releasing Office 2024 on October 1 for consumers and small businesses.”
