Microsoft has released updates today for the Windows 10 operating system, as well as for other of the company's products, updates that fix 55 security issues ranging from remote code execution to simple spoofing attacks.

The products that received security updates are Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps, .NET Framework, Adobe Flash Player, and Microsoft Exchange Server.

Thanks for this telling heads up.

Seriously, if M$ code is this buggy as concerns constant security covers/overwrites so often they really should consider at some point of trying to rewrite the whole thing in a completely different (either new or creative) manner.

This seems like an endless cycle with no end.

I don't think anyone is going to sit down and reinvent the wheel, at this point, and even if they would, we can't be sure it will roll more smoothly.

Most of the vulnerabilities they discover are only theoretical threats, because no one knows about them except for the Microsoft researchers. Sometimes, they patch actively exploited holes in protection, but most of the time it is not that way.

Anyway, that's why you have 3rd party security apps -- because Windows is not perfect and never will be.

Exactly. And (plenty of) those third party apps have a strong reputation, many time-tested propping up or otherwise keeping this boat afloat.

No intent to suggest anything whatsoever toward perfection on their part, but it can be interesting to track the trend M$ is laid out before and now. Oddly they do seem to found a new ambition as concerns security so anything positive on that front has to be considered a major advancement for them.

Apple does security updates and patches also

And Microsoft now gives customers running the latest version the option to run in a near lock down setting.

It would be insane to trash a product that enjoys market dominance, because of a few bad actors.

They should thank their lucky stars on holding that position too and also continue without fail to do more and stay competitive or shall we say dominant.

They do have that monopoly to their favor but the honor of distinction that comes with being a Quality & Secure product is an area in which they seem to finally be making a much better and welcome effort to improve on which they realize was even more important.

If your quality and security suffer setbacks, that's one thing, but if it's an ongoing endless string of negative events, then there arises an inevitably danger of losing ground and/or progress and you don't want that to happen when, as you say, you enjoy market dominance in that arena.
