Hi,

If you want a free AV there are many good ones, Avira free (with ABS in browser), avast free (only thing needed are the shields), panda free ....
Paid AV Kaspersky internet security, Avira Pro, Bitdefender IS, Norton ....

PS: Welcome to MT :)

Regards

How did you get infected?

ESET should be fine if setup properly, check the ESET part of the forum for setup guides, you might want to add some additional protection though, it's better not to get a virus in than having an AV detecting one.

If you insist on a full security suite, then I would recommend EMSISOFT Internet Security. Some other options that are popular on MT (apart from ESET, very popular) are NORTON, Webroot, and KASPERSKY. However, I recommend that you consider other protective options like anti-executables, sandboxes, and virtualization softwares which could potentially reduce your dependency on bulky AV's. Look into APPGUARD, Shadow Defender, and Sandboxie. You'll find plenty of info on them on MT by doing a search.

EDIT: Welcome to MT, by the way.

Welcome to MalwareTips remember to make a security config thread. ESET is very good but remember to have an Anti-Malware like Malwarebytes or Zemana as threats could still get through.

Hello to you too, Mixera. It can be very frustrating when an infection invades & removes or "destroys" your icons. It's easy to blame the Antivirus, but most times it happens because we <click> on something we won't even know is malicious.
This can (& will) happen to any of us when we <click> on an innocent looking link, picture, or email attachment. Last week, I'd carelessly clicked on a fake LastPass extension in the Chrome Store!o_O It was suspicious as it used their older three *** logo. Happily, because as I was inside of a Virtual Machine, I was able to return to an earlier state.

Anyway, welcome to being a new member. You shall have many choices, and are sure to learn a lot while having a lot lof fun too!:D We will all be there to help you along the way!:):)
