This is not meant to be a criticism of the forum/moderators,it is only my POV!

However,by requiring "moderator approval" upon making a post/reply in that particular forum, the "momentum" of the conversations is disrupted!
Furthermore, if no moderator is online at the time, then that post becomes "old news" when and if it eventually becomes approved!;)

Thanks!:)

PS:I know it was done to filter out innapropriate content (thanks to Littlebits for clarifying),but can't there be some type of workaround to this?

simple; NO politics/religion/sex orientation/racial discussions allowed.

for info ; during the time i will be online , i will close/remove those threads. Not because i don't like discuss those topics but because they have nothing to do here on a security forum and always generate flame & trolls.

Space Bar section is supposed to be a fun and relaxing area to change from the serious security stuff we discuss the rest of the time.

Thanks.

It is a shame this is what it has come to but as Umbra pointed out these topics cannot be allowed to be debated anywhere in the forums.
Newsworthy stories are fine by themselves and if the replies were based on just the facts of the story there would not be a problem. However this is not the case. What does happen is a flurry of replies interjected with personal views on religion, politics, government and race or nationality if you will. This in turn cause a backlash of replies pointed at the author of these other replies which in turn offends both parties. Then these posts offend some who are reading the thread and they now become offended and in turn jump in and post their own personal views and opinions. What is even worse is the quoting of posts followed by flaming of that member who posted it.
Staff have tried to nicely stop this from happening but nobody seems to have bothered to heed the warning.Instead it continues with members getting offended and reporting posts, numerous PM's to staff members and apparently not taking the time to even consider the amended forum rules that Jack implemented well over a week ago.Rules that dealt solely with this very situation and these topics.
Some were apparently under the impression that the Space Bar was an "anything goes" forum exempt from forum rules.Even when this was kindly pointed out by staff members to not be the case and the amended rules quoted and posted within the threads.
In my opinion it seems that this is the only solution to a problem that has gotten out of hand. The writing was on the wall but nobody took the time to read it :(

OK, I think I've got it. Non-political, non-faith connected to religious-ness (aside from the Church of Gadget Malware), A-sexual, non-ethnic, and uber un-racial talk is all acceptable.
ALRIGHT!! Let's get the party started!!!:D
Of course I am only trying to lighten things up a little... ;):p and think I can understand some of what I'm feeling in the wake of what venustus & Exterminator20 have put forth both before (& after) Umbra Polaris. Darn, (where's the serious smiley when you need one?) & I thought this was going to be a little "pleasure island" called "space bar", where no one turns into a donkey, troll, or gets flamed.
Here's hoping it will still be F-U-N. Thanks!:D

Hey Umbra, What about NSA threads? don't forget to include that type of discussion in your black book. I have three sons, my mother and two ex wives living safely in the US thanks to their work and I am offended personally every time that I see one of those threads.

And please, no vulgarity. A few days ago, someone wrote about his girlfriends period, I know talking about it is amusing to some but this is a security forum, if my wife whose looking behind my shoulder all the time read that kind of "Status" message, she would be offended. As well as any other lady, please don't forget to include that kind of topic in your black book.

Hello Bo,

First of all NSA threads are ok as they are relevant to Internet Security, even talking about it and their ethics is fine.
However this is where there thin line ends.
On a personal note: I do not want to rip open old topics but last time I was making a genuine point about the NSA and their tactics.
Which you replied to in a way I am not going to repeat here and neither am I going to say what I think about it or you might get offended lmao.
All joking aside the forum rules are the forum rules and if you feel a topic to be offending then either report it or totally disregard it.
That's the only advise I can give you, and if for whatever reason you run into other issues then please contact a staff member and they will see what they can do, and if you have a personal issue with a member then either ignore him/her or try to solve it by sending this person a pm.
If you do the above steps in a respectful way (So not like you replied on your last topic!!!!) then you will see that there is no reason to be offended as opinions will be opinions and the soup is never as hot as its been served.

That being said like it or not but you will have to respect staff members and their decision regardless if you like it or not.

Kind Regards Nico

there is a distinction between citizen and agencies/government ; i can easily criticize my own country government, without insulting/hurting the people that lives in; but since some members here take things too seriously even for clearly oriented jokes (ok people has different sense of humor; i give you that), there is no other solutions.

About NSA , i dont mind they do their works in USA but i dont want they do in mine.

Btw, common sense is required for security , common sense should also be viable for other topics; but unfortunately this is not the case here when it enter the field of religion & politics.

Also, i saw some members (doing little investment on the forum) clearly knowing the rules but still ignoring them because they think they knows better or just want take revenge for being moderated.

MT is a community , in a community you have rules, if you don't like the rules, just leave.

We have to do this not because we like to rules members but because members force us to do so; believe me we have other stuff to do than remove/close a interesting (even in politic/religion & co) thread because some minority start flaming each others.

thanks

OK, lets not get offended n,nvt, alright?:)

You wrote about your personal experience dealing with Americans during the time when you were doing military service, I didn't like what you wrote, you were making fun, ridiculing American intelligence and implied that their capacity is under par while yours is top of the world. I replied with unquestionable facts that you had forgotten.

Nico, about NSA threads, I believe in total freedom of expression but if someone is gonna use a black book to censor, then, in my opinion, black is black brother. You know what I mean. It would not be fair if I had the black book in my hand and I was to censor what it is disgusting to me personally and not censor other "offending" topics. Thats why censorship sucks. But if someone is gonna decide what to censor and what not to censor, it should be fair.

A few months ago, one of the guys who posted in this thread, wrote about what he does at 3 AM in the morning in his bed. That was disgusting, there was a lady posting on that thread, I haven't seen her here since. That kind of stuff is worst than what you and I went through yesterday. Myself, I was so disgusted with that garbage from this immature poster that I left and didn't come back here for about two months. See, that kind of stuff should go. Fair is fair.

Before i told about my opinion and experience in and with US citizens/government point of view , responding to some posts (i even forgot what the topic was about) but it was long time ago.

Now MT becomes quite wide & popular, not as before where we were a bunch of security techies, it is why we tighten the rules to avoid trolls & flames, since many members now come from various countries with sometimes opposite point of views.

Personally as a staff i avoid involving in those kind of threads except in moderation purposes.

To "close" the chapter, we have rules , so our members have to comply with them.

Alright well lets solve this case then, without going into it as much as we did in the previous topic, but I think that if we can keep things civil that we can discuss this and end this topic.
So if you allow me.

I never stated that our intelligence services where top notch, but granted they are not bad either.
I never stated that US intelligence services are bad, BUT what id did say repeatedly is that the system has grown so big that between all the static they collect from their many data sources that real data and solid evidence is not being noticed.
People on the ground who actually do work day in day out with US intelligence services and briefings know what I am talking about.
For you as a civilian (Assuming you are) and not a professional it sounds like someone is making fun of your nation.
By no means am I making fun of your nation BUT I do indeed question their motives, objectives and the results that come from points a to z.
And yes indeed I made some fun comments, because during my time where we where working with US Marines and Delta guess who was popping those jokes? Indeed high ranking US officers and key personnel.
Do you have any idea how annoying it is to get a Intel briefing about a high value target, then set it up in all rush and get out there and then find a chicken farm? Any idea how humiliating it is when you are a proud US Marine officer to get help from coalition forces only to find hot air?
So yes we made fun of it and I will continue to do so till kingdom comes.
That being said I like the US, I just do not like what it has become from a foreign policy point of view and specially from a intelligence point of view. Things have gone out of control, out of hand and totally out of legal framework and context.
And from a EU POV US law is not my law so if the US law policy making dictates that US personnel should be tapped, wired and monitored then by all means go for it.
But to our law is a foreign nation is tapping our data then this is still a international crime and conflict. (Regardless what US law says)
That's just a example.
The whole interpretation of the system itself would leave enough room to write a 100 books in terms of what's wrong with it, while you hardly can fill a page what's good with it.
Now I do not need you to agree with me, and neither do I ask you to understand it, fact is these are my own personal experiences throughout my rather impressive army career and my view is being shared by those who know and "been" there done that.
Every security specialist, professional, expert or tech savvy can tell you there is a fine line between a great security, and security that becomes a threat to security itself.
My point here is that again I do not want to offend you and neither do I want to make you agree to things, I am just offering you my personal and professional view on this matter, in the same way as I have done with all other topic and guides I wrote.
I will write anything relevant in both a good way and bad way if this is relevant to the topic at hand.

In regards to the second world war, let me be VERY clear here: I do not respect baseless bias comments about how we got overrun and how we needed the Americans to do the fighting for us. And even tho we have been liberated by the Americans, Canadian, English, And Australians it is by no means fair to compare that situation to the present day.
One wise man said ones: Nazism was like a virus which could strike ANYWHERE but it found a suitable host in Germany and Italy.
Because due to the conditions within Germany this virus could corrupt those who knew from the start that this is going to end bad.
Or do you really think that every single German was worshipping A.H?
That said while we thank the forces who liberated us, we need to remind ourself that in the end of the day we where all into this from top to bottom and there was no nation on the world that could escape what was going to happen.
So it was in everyone's interest to pick a side and do what needed to be done.
Anyway we have not forgotten anything that happened due WOII and we have learned our own lessons based upon our mistakes in every aspect available.
But these lessons give us the wisdom and knowledge to build a better tomorrow where these things do not happen anymore.
Hence why EU mainland has been at peace for nearly 50 years in a row.
So please do not preach about WW2 it does not look good... it really does not.
And do not use WW2 to bolster a statement as it only weakens every future comment you might going to make. (No disrespect intended)

The whole forum is security related and these topics should not be discussed, and if for whatever reason a topic like this is going to be discussed then this should be in a open way without feeling offended.
If something is wrong it should be said it is, in the same way as you would write about something good.
A forum is made exactly for that... Share info in a open way.

And this is all what I got to say about it.

N.nvt, your posts are too long, try to make them shorter.

Yesterday, in the sentence that I quoted from your post, you said American intelligence was wrong 7 out of 10 times while yours is 90% of he time correct. And then you mocked and made fun of Americans. You are wrong about American intelligence. If American intelligence was as bad as you said, we would have seen more terrorist attacks like 9/11. But there has been none. A big 0. That is no luck. This is my opinion based on facts, you don't have to agree with it but there was no reason for you to attack me for what I said.

I fought two wars against the communist. They won the first one, we won the second one. The last one lasted 10 years and it ended with the Cold war. That was no camping or picnic.

Yes my comments are long and motivated...
Ohhh boy...<facepalm>
Moved on... already.

The following posts are off-topic, even in a thread like this you cannot get along.

If you see an offending post, please report it. A system in place for those sort of posts, where a moderator is not currently available and it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Thread Closed.

@venustus Thanks for sharing your point of view.
