if macros are disabled, do you think there is still a possibility for malicious code to run?
Problem is dynamic content (scripts, macro's, plugins, VBA, ocx, etc), so

Open trustcenter in Office and disable all.

De-install flash for IE/Edge, so embedded flash object in office run into a dead end.

Use Chrome, Opera or Firefox and go to your internet settings in Control panel and raise security levels. Embedded links in Office documents follow these IE security levels. Because you use a non MS browser, your internet experience should not be impacted by raising default levels.
