My Desktop Configuration(updated)

RE: My Desktop Configuration

Interesting choice of Linux Distro.

For those who do not know, Elementary OS is a Linux Distro based off Ubuntu (screenshots can be a giveaway to earlier versions of Ubuntu prior to UNITY as well as resemblance to Mac OS).

Pantheon Desktop Environment is one of the major changes from Jupiter since previously GNOME Desktop Environment was used.

Luna is the second build of Elementary OS. Previous build is known as Jupiter which I believe is still available.

Nevertheless not a Distro I would use as a Main OS.

No need to have any RT/OD protection.

They have made great changes to their OS especially extra and butter smooth animations ;)

I shall give Luna a spin.

Has their hardware support improved since Jupiter?

I did stumble across some issues on Jupiter's early builds before I forgot about such distro.

Thanks for taking the time to answer:)

RE: My Desktop Configuration

Yeah their hardware support is now much improved as compared to previous version especially if you have Intel or AMD GPU.But this version is in beta so i recommend you to try this after stable release :)

RE: My Desktop Configuration

Don't know much about Linux, but something you can add to Chrome is, Lastpass, WOT, Ghostery. :)

RE: My Desktop Configuration

Don't know much about Lastpass and Ghostery but i think there is no need to install WOT on chromium browser because there is no danger of any virus :)

Thanks for your comment :)

Chromium is arguably one of the most secure browsers available, but to say that there is no danger of any virus is a bit of an overstatement. ;)

So what do you think is gonna infect my pc?

Don't know much about Linux, but as far as I know, they don't get any?

RE: My Desktop Configuration

There are Linux Viruses out there but they are VERY rare.
There are AV's for Linux but I don't think its needed like Windows, Android and Recently Mac users do.

RE: My Desktop Configuration

AFAIK, that, Linux OS also has virus threat, but not so serious as windows.....
but AVAST /Comodo is always there for free to help home users :)

Windows is the most common platform to get viruses due to the popularity of it.

You can get infected by viruses if you are using old Linux based OS otherwise i think there is no need to install any AV :)

Thanks for your comment ;)

I didn't realize you were running Linux.

That said, Linux isn't immune as you seem to believe. Linux malware isn't as prevalent, but it does exist. Here is an interesting article for you.

And my Answer is "NO" (as same in the article)
If you have a up to date Linux system then there is only 1% chance of getting infected by virus :)

RE: My Desktop Configuration

What work do you do on your desktop? What are your specs?
