pc info:

with Firefox 16 (latest)
Using malwares from malc0de site and phishing list from cleanmx site
Used 10 malware links for proactive protection (incl. download protection)
Used 5 phishing links for phinishing protection test.

Used the highest setting for optimal protection.
Overall score calculated by averaging the proactive and phishing protection

The free security products (latest version) that worked or were compatible on win 8 pro without problems were Kingsoft antivirus 2012, AVAST 7 free, AVG 2013 free, Windows 8 defender.

Phishing protection: 60%
Overall score: 80%

Malwarebyte Antimalware pro:
Proactive Protection: 30%
Phishing protection: 0%
Overall score: 15%

Total Defense Internet security 2013
Proactive Protection: 20%
Phishing protection: 0%
Overall score: 10%

I will tests others that are windows 8 pro compatible.

Unthreat antivirus free:
Proactive protection: 70%
Phishing protection: 0%
Overall score: 35%

Panda cloud free:
Proactive protection: 60%
Phishing protection: 0%
Overall score: 30%

Pc-tool free antivirus, Rising antivirus, Ad-aware free and immunet free are not windows 8 ready (their respective site does not state windows 8 in the system requirement) so I did not test them.

:( Sorry to hear this, did you attempt to test with the new CIS6 beta or CIS 5.12 ?
Hope you could try again please :)

Also Emsisoft EAM and OA are Win8 ready.

I thought so. But the CIS 5.12 froze after installation and would not reboot. SO I retest it with the firewall only (i heard the av has issues) all went ok and when I rebooted then got black screen that would not go away. I think CIS 5.12 is not completely ready for win 8. I have not tested cis 6 and will do it too.

Also result for emsisoft antimalware pro test (same setting as my above tests):
Proactive protection: 70%
Phishing protection: 40%
Overall score: 55%

The following were not win 8 pro ready to test.

Pc-tool free antivirus; Rising free antivirus; Immunet Free, Ad-aware antivirus free.

Mcafee would not grant me a free 30 day trial since my last one was expired (they give trials and downloads based on your account and e-mail), therefor could not test it.

Sorry to hear of the issues you had, i suggest you report this to Comodo if possible.
CIS6 is still in early beta stage.

Thanks for taking the time to test these products :)

I tried both cis 5.12 for win 8 and cis 6 beta and the similar issue. This time the installation of both would freeze at 99% and would not go further.

Also I engaged to get my hand on mcafee antivrus plus 2013 and that has compatibility issue with win 8 pro as well. You can not change the setting in it. It gives windows error message.

Here is another of my tests.

Bullguard IS 2013 (same testing method as of my other tests above):
Proactive protection: 60%
Phishing protection: 100%
Overall score: 80%

Well webroot secure anywhere complete in windows 8 pro causes problem with firefox 16 and does not allow firefox to be launched. So I had no choice but to use internet explorer 10 that comes with win 8 to test. Here are the result.

USED INTERNET EXPLORER 10 for webroot secure anywhere complete:
Proactive protection: 70%
Phishing protection: 0%
Overall score: 35%

Also I tested farsonic anti-excutable but was not win 8 pro compatible and did not install. Gives incompatibility message

Hi:

Well I tried 5 known phishing sites from clean mx phishing site list and if any security tested blocked the page with warning then passed and if not and allowed the page to load so you could enter you confidential info then its a fail in my book.
