The researchers are talking about an old, known issue whereby some security soft vendors install a root certificate to intercept and monitor SSL\TLS.

Same as Lenovo SuperFish and COMODO PrivDog.
I am pretty sure that Kaspersky does this. Their injection sometimes breaks the certificate chain.

I have been part of the WebRoot beta for a couple years now and Umbra's right.
It's like theres a bunch of magicians over there with smoke machines and mirrors.
But in all honesty it's a good solid product.
