O&O ShutUp10 a small portable utility that provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more.

ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems.

O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days!

O&O ShutUp10 1.6.1397.1 changelog:

howtogeek doesn't recommend this kind of software (anti-spying)
You referring to this article

Why You Shouldn’t Use “Anti-Spying” Tools for Windows 10

The Problem with These Tools

Tools of this type can cause a variety of problems, and if you look around the web, you can see plenty of instances of people experiencing those problems. These include:
  • Blocking Windows Update completely, preventing the installation of important security updates and leaving your PC vulnerable.
  • Tampering with the hosts file to block specific Microsoft web servers, leading to various problems like Skype failing to synchronize chat messages or being unable to update itself.
  • Breaking the Windows Store, preventing you from installing apps from there and preventing it from updating the included applications in Windows 10.
  • Disabling the Windows Defender antivirus, which helps keep Windows 10 secure, and other system components you may actually want, like OneDrive.
  • Deleting various services and parts of Windows 10, breaking various things and potentially blocking you from installing major updates like the Anniversary Update and November Update before it.

Unless you are very paranoid in privacy and want to do things out of Windows otherwise avoid those settings that will affect the mentioned problems should help.

Example. I would not disable Windows Update since I need them for auto updates. Some might prefer to perform manual update by directly downloading from MS instead of through Windows. However, I'll disable anything related to Cortana, Skype, OneDrive etc for I'm not using them
