The openSUSE project released today openSUSE Leap Micro 6.0 as the latest version of this secure and lightweight openSUSE Leap variant designed for containerized and virtualized workloads.
After being in development for the past several months, openSUSE Leap Micro 6.0 delivers a new self-install image that replaces the traditional installer. The self-install image writes a preconfigured image to the disk and then it enlarges the root partition.
“Users can use combustion, ignition or default to the jeos-firstboot wizard to do the initial setup of the system,” said the openSUSE project. “Do not get mistaken by the availability of openSUSE-Leap-Micro-6.0-*.iso is not installable. We refer to the image as a Packages image, which is basically an offline repository on a DVD.”
This release is also available as new FDE (Full Disk Encryption), VMWare, and RealTime images, and since this is the first release to come with cloud-init preinstalled, it will also be available as cloud images on GCP (Google Cloud Platform), Azure, and AWS (Amazon Web Services).
