Greetings everyone,

Today we are releasing the Opera 71 update. Among all the improvements, it includes some user-requested options for tab searching and history searching, as well as new customisable shortcut options for your messengers and workspaces. It’s all described in more detail below.

Custom shortcuts for Messengers & Workspaces

Messengers and workspaces have been given dedicated sections in Settings for customizing keyboard shortcuts. Now you can create your own keyboard shortcut for each messenger or workspace that you use, so you can open WhatsApp with Ctrl+M, for example, send a quick message, then jump to your shopping workspace with another keystroke. To create your own shortcuts, follow these instructions.

Search in tabs – Show more/less button

The Search in Tabs feature lets you search for specific tabs by typing keywords, showing you results from both your open tabs and your recently-closed tabs. Users have been requesting the option to see more of their tabs when searching, but we would also like to keep your search results clean and organized.

To solve this, we’ve added a Show more button which will expand the results. This button changes to Show less after you expand it. This should give you the best of both worlds.

Advanced search options in History

If you want to find a web page that you visited in the past, you can search through your records on the full History page (Ctrl+H) using keywords. However, what if you remember the date or time that you found the page, but can’t think of relevant keywords?

Thanks to more user requests, we’ve added date filtering to the search options. Now you can easily check where you were 2 weeks ago at 10:00. In addition, we’ve added a new Delete History Below button, which allows you to delete the history items you’ve found, without deleting the rest of your history.

Happy browsing!

Have you tried GX?
Yeah I did. Initially liked it a lot, but with time felt it had too much features that I never used anyway so it's uninstalled. The latest version though seems appealing.

Howdy,

Just this past week we released the newest version of our desktop browser (Opera 71). Among all the updates in this version, we’ve included a feature that is so simple, yet so useful, that you’re left wondering why no other browser has it.

We’re talking about Easy Files.

Think about how many times a day you find yourself attaching PDFs, images, docs or other files to your emails. Or go down your short-term memory lane and consider how many memes you’ve recently copied and pasted into messengers, to both the delight and groans of your friends?

Like us, you’ve probably done it many times today, along with every other day, so our browser is here to make this process easier.

Easy Files centers on an idea we’ve been pursuing for quite a while – that of Supportive Design. Supportive design isn’t there to tell you how to use your browser but, as the name suggests, it supports you in every step.

Ok, to the point Opera! What is Easy Files?

When you attach or upload a file, Easy Files presents those which you’ve most recently downloaded, or the items you’ve last added to your clipboard, in an easy-to-click visual display. And yes, this includes your artwork from Opera’s Snapshot tool.

This means you no longer have to go digging through your various folders every time you want to attach something to an email or a message. Instead, you get a clean display of the three files you’ve most recently interacted with. Now you can attach files in a single click, and move on with your lives.

Brilliant, isn’t it? So go ahead and attach files with wild abandon, and prepare to be amazed!
