PI-HOLE DROPS SUPPORT FOR ADBLOCK-STYLE BLOCKLISTS
But in a recent update, Pi-hole creators announced they were dropping support for "AdBlock-style blocklists," named so after AdBlock, the first ad-blocking browser extension.

The syntax and formatting of this extension's blocklist has spread and has become an informal standard across fellow browser-based ad-blocker extensions.

Pi-hole creators said they decided to drop this type of ad-blocking blocklist format because it was never meant for Pi-hole systems, and users employing these types of lists were creating "far too many false positives," blocking domains that were never meant to be blocked.

As a result of this recent change, Pi-hole developers said that users "may notice a reduction in the number of blocked domains" going forward, something that Pi-hole users won't be too happy to hear.

This is a pretty big mistake, and while they declare in public their reasoning behind this, it makes no logical sense other than they are getting pushback from ad/telemetry/tracking firms and sponsors. The reason it makes no sense is Pi-Hole themselves don't have to deal with false positives. Pi-Hole is used by IT Guys and Prosumers, who know how to watch for incorrect blocks and whitelist. Why would Pi-Hole have any dealings with any of that?

Anyway, it's not as big of a deal as it sounds since you can still use the old-style parsed ad/telemetry blocklists such as the ones here;

From today we are looking for people to help us beta test the next iteration of Pi-hole!
We have been quiet on the release front for a few months, but we have been busy working away on lots of new features to make Pi-hole an even better tool for your ad-blocking needs!

oisd blocklist now has added a separate list for AdGuard Home and the author now recommends AdGuard Home. The list has a million entries and very few false positives so it's an easier and more conveniently aggregated drop-in to Firebog's.
AdGuard Home also has native upstream DoH/DoT/DNSCrypt support so you can add another filter from CleanBrowsing or Quad9 or Cloudflare Malware.
