Bip bip, bip bip, bip...
This was my new configuration on my new Toshiba:
Screenshot_1.png

I have to install shadow defender in this computer, windows 8.1 with UAC enable + windows smartscreen.
I don't have many files and docs on this pc because I save in the cloud all the important files for me;)

PS. I have also more laptops like other with windows 7 - 32bits/3GB ram: shadow defender, UAC enable, full updated.
only change av: F-secure av. The rest is almost the same as Windows 8.1 config, same browser estensions.
I need updating my security setting since the old setup and OS doesn't reflect reality anymore:)

opinions about that ? any improvements to do?
thanks in advance;)

Improve your own security by avoiding visiting malicious or phishing websites.
  • Enable Malware and Phishing Protection in all web browsers
  • Do not download from untrusted sources
Overall system improvements
  • Enable UAC on default to prevent users and programs from accessing privileged resources
  • Admin password should be non-guessable for standard user accounts
  • Must keep Microsoft Office, Skype and VLC Player fully updated

Solid config! :) I would like to know more about crystal security,is it dependable and useful ?

@Piteko21, thank you for sharing your updated configuration with us. ..& with a new avatar too!:p
It's of great interest to me seeing you use Crystal Security, & I liked your posted specs for the new system too!:):)
How does your Windows 8.1 (Toshiba's) performance compare with the older Windows 7 system?o_O

It may be unnecessary to say as I show their big yellow banner to all below, yet (imho) the free sandboxing program offered by Sandboxie is an effective prevention concerning <clicking> mishaps, & enhances your security in all browsers. My wife has even grown
to :eek:like it!:D
Just keep in mind changes you wish to remain (like browser updates) must be performed outside the sandbox similarly to Shadow Defender!

For Chrome I use the following settings for privacy.
  1. Click the Chrome menu
    IB7eZ2ht1pEixChJA4xp6iejr1xw3rXY_yJNeHgHajBRTzLB0ldIpEFje8gyeB4ydp6xpQpJ=w18-h18
    on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, & click Show advanced settings.
  4. In the "Privacy" section, click the Content settings button.
  • Check the box "Block third party cookies & site date"
  • Mark the circle "Keep site date only until you close your browser"
Use "New Incognito Window". This will delete both history & cookies when session ends.;)

In Firefox, consider selfdestructingcookies extension.
..and the following setting.
  1. Open preferences
  2. Go to Privacy
  3. Under History, select Firefox will: "Never remember history" & while you're at it you can clear all current history too.

hi @Kent,sorry for the delay.

I just installed it last night. crystal security acts as a on -demand scanner and blocking tool, like Avast hardened mode. crystal has cloud and heuristical protection, block and detect malware like others AVs, its a behavior blocker I suppose:).

its light and work well along side others antivirus.
image that you have an executable as malware and your tradicional AV can't detect, so probably, crystal security will detect, block and remove the new threat.;)
in my opinion is useful and dependable, its develop by @Kardo Kristal;) ...for me its a must have tool:)

Hi @Cats-4_Owners-2, sorry for the delay:)

All my software is always updated with the latest available updates.
my windows 8.1 toshiba has 4gb of ram and the old one has only 3gb. Performs a little better, the difference is significant, than my old toshiba windows 7. windows 8.1 its buggy:D:D-- 2 toshibas:D:D

I forgot to mention that I have uninstalled SandBoxie but I'll install again on both computers. due to some problems I have formatted the windows 8 , cleared it of all the crapware that he brought:)

thanks for the chrome advise, I think I should have done it but I forgot firefox.-- I will check and configure like you said;)

I use more the old computer to download malware and visit phishing sites... but boths will have shadow defender + sandboxie;)
crystal security its a must have tool, I think its more or less like Avast Hardened mode, he block the threats and remove them.
its a second layer of protection, an light behavior blocker:)

regards;)
