Download links available above. See below for details.

Important: This beta is currently limited to Visionary Plan subscribers.

Upcoming features

The Proton Mail desktop app is currently in beta, and doesn’t support all the features available on the web app yet. We plan to add them over time, and include for example:
  • Offline mode support isn’t available yet.
  • Switching accounts is not supported. If you need to use another account, you’ll need to log out and log in again.
  • No notification badge for unread messages
  • Clicking on a new email or calendar notification may not open the appropriate window
  • Mailto links won’t open the app
  • ICS files won’t open the app
  • Setting up Easy Switch is disabled. You can use the web app instead to import emails or set up a forwarding.

Yes, this is normal for Proton, and in general Beta products built from scratch.

Did you know the current (non-Beta) Proton Mail for Android has no Email Tracking protection as advertised? Only available for iOS and Web.

Today, we’re excited to broaden the horizons of secure communication by launching the Proton Mail desktop app. Anyone can now use the new Proton Mail desktop app for Windows and macOS, with a Linux version in beta.

These new additions complement our existing web and mobile applications, ensuring you can keep your emails private across all your devices without being confined to a web browser.
Anyone can now try our dedicated desktop app on Windows and macOS. If you have a free Proton Mail plan, you can try it for 14 days for free. The Linux app is also available in beta at the link below.
