Today, we’re happy to introduce enhanced tracking protection, a feature that will provide an additional layer of privacy to your inbox. Now you can read your emails without letting advertisers watch you, build a profile on you, or serve you ads based on your mail activity.

By default, ProtonMail on the web now protects your privacy by:
  • Blocking tracking pixels commonly found in newsletters and promotional emails, preventing senders from spying on your mail.
  • Hiding your IP address from third parties so your location remains private.

Protonmail users can activate a free Proton.me email address until April 30th

Protonmail announced the news about a week ago, but the option to claim the free Proton.me address didn't go live until today. The only catch here is that you need to activate the @Proton.me ID before April 30th, and you will be able to use it forever. Users who don't activate the free Proton.me address before the said date, will need to pay for a premium ProtonMail account to get the ID. You can continue using your regular @Protonmail.com address normally after activating the Proton.me ID.

ProtonMail will not delete user accounts for inactivity if the user had paid for a subscription at any point

ProtonMail has published a support page on its website that explains more about the inactive account policy. All you need to do to protect your account, is to log into it from your web browser or the mobile app, once a year. Or, you could use the VPN app too, since activity across services is also counted.

This is the most important information on the support page,
"If you are or have been a paid Proton subscriber at any point in time, your account will permanently be considered active. Anyone that has ever paid for a Proton plan is exempt from this policy."

Proton has updated its logos and plan prices for Mail and VPN

Proton Mail Plus

This is the basic premium plan offered by Proton, and it costs the same as before, with the prices starting at $4.99 a month, and goes up to $47.88 for one year ($3.99/month), or $83.76 for two years ($3.49/month). But the Mail Plus plan offers more benefits than before. Users get 15GB of storage space (shared across Proton's services) which is an extra 10GB on top of the 5GB they had earlier.

ProtonMail Plus allows subscribers to use up to 10 email addresses (previously 5), access to Proton Drive, and Proton Calendar and Bridge. Catch-all, which collects emails from all addresses in your domain, is now available for Proton Plus users, this was previously locked in the Professional plan.
