Question: About Malware Sample Testing

Hi everyone I am new to MalwareTips.

I am setting up a virtual machine and a dedicated LAN network with VPN for malware testing.

I wonder if the malware sample provided in the forum would auto-run itself since I need to batch rename them in my virtual machine and I don't want it to be infect before I even begin my test.

AFAIK those samples are not automatically run unless you execute it, thus no worries on renaming by batch.

If a malware has specific interactions with the operating system, for example with explorer.exe or if the OS has specific bugs or flaws that malware can exploit to run its code, then a malware can start itself.
Keep in mind that nothing is safe in this game.
