You can do it from your system, I think you do not need your windows disc.

although my friend seems to think this is strictly tied to the user account. i tried making a new user and these problems don't seem to exist.

Need to do some more testing to see if the new user is totally stable. Had a weird crash today that I haven't seen before, but I'm hoping it was just something random. I haven't migrated all my settings yet. I'll decide over the next day or two if I want to do a restore.
