I know that my question is not related to the contents discussed on this forum, but I don't know where to ask this matter, so I am posting it here hoping to get some responses of MT members.

I am planning to buy an e-book reader and my preferred file format is .epub. Popular e-book reader on the market is Amazon Kindle but it doesn't support .epub directly .It provides a workaround where a user can convert .epub to .mobi (supported by Kindle).

Another conversion solution is using Calibre.

My question is that after using Calibre to convert .epub to .mobi, does the appearance of e-book get lost or altered in any way (for e.g., alignment of text, font and page settings, etc.).

I mean does the converted .mobi file is similar to the original .epub or gets altered?

For e.g., some e-books converted to .pdf using Calibre lost their original re-flow of text and it greatly hampers the reading pleasure.

Or I can get a Nook e-book reader? It supports .epub.

Please provide your experiences on such a case.

You'd also might want to consider Kobo eReaders which, in my opinion, stand a step above Amazon Kindles (while also being cheaper).

I myself have a Kobo Touch, which supports EPUB, PDF and MOBI (as seen by the technical specifications page) as well as a micro SD card slot which the Kindle does not provide.

As it happens with displays (no backlight means very little strain on your eyes) on both the Kindle eReader and Kobo Touch, the touch screen can develop to become slightly unresponsive when pressing small buttons (although changing pages and pressing larger icons is still quick and easy).

(Please correct me if I am wrong) : Backlight helps us to read in low light conditions esp. at nights. If we have suitable light conditions then we do not need a backlight device. is it so?

Another question is that how does kindle and kobo handles a PDF file? which is better for a PDF file?
same question for an EPUB file.

since you own a Kobo eReader, please share your usage experience with it.
