hi,

Since "Tony" the original developper is "back from the dead", We have now a new version of Shadow Defender.

Homepage

Official Forum

the new version has a new UI and a new feature but basically it remains same as the older version

now the description:

1- System Status

uA0xzK3.png

Where the basic infos are summarized, all you need to watch is here.
"Space used by SD" indicate the amount of datas written since you entered Shadow Mode

2- Mode Setting

aBIFaJe.png

this tab shows the different drives available to be protected in Shadow Mode, removable drives/USB flash drives are supported.

As you can see, there is a new feature called "RAM used as write cache", it allows you to set the amount of RAM you want SD uses to write the changes made to the system in your RAM instead that on the HDD.

now i pass on Shadow Mode :

you can see my drive C & D are now protected (but not my USB)

When i want exit Shadow Mode:

3- File Exclusion List

G9XD6RK.png

the place where you will exclude files/folders from protection.

note: If you want exclude your AV (for keeping the signatures/program updates) be sure to exclude all of the AV's folders.

4- Registry Exclusion List

Same as above but for registry keys. Useful to allow total updating of softwares while under shadow mode. Use with cautions since malware usually root themselves in the registry.

5- Commit Now

NUaVI.jpg

this tab allows you to keep any changes made during Shadow Mode to your real system.

6- Administration

SA6sbP1.png

Nothing special here, just options

Why you should use Shadow Defender:

1- Security: if you got infected, your real system is kept safe, set it to start at each boot and you can sleep when your family browse the web or install softs without your permission

2- Testing: you like to test malwares/keygen/softwares, SD is made for you but beware SD is not 100% bullet-proof, some rootkits may bypass it.

Final Note:

Shadow defender is one of my "must-have" software, it allows you to tighten the security of your system, any changes made in shadow mode are discarded after the reboot.

Shadow Defender is an awesome program "often copied, never surpassed", i rate it 5/5

Thanks

How stable is the latest version compared to the one you were using?

Both are very stable, never got any BSODs/crashes on Win7 or Win8

Nice effort Umbra.

@Biozfear, I installed SD .346 on both of my computers (XP/w7), no issue at all. It feels a little better in my W7 than in XP but it works great on both. I know some people get BSOD when using this kind of programs but in the almost three years that I have used Light virualization programs like SD, I never had one or experimented any major issue.

I love this kind of program, in my opinion everybody that comes to forums like this one should have something like this in their computer.

For me, nothing can substitute Sandboxie but SD as other programs that are alike are great for trying other programs or for trying changes in the system.

it needs to be rewriten deepfully because in 2 years (time it was abandonned) , malwares involved a lot especially sophisticated rootkits.

I really like Shadow Defender as due to environmental OS of Windows 8 x64 bit system, its the only one virtualization works well however when restart and shutdown it couldn't completed fully thus I need to hard button as forced.

It occurs when huge of cache made by SD through disk and when RAM cache activated it goes hang the system hang.

SD has been updated!

I was also wondering, if Shadow Mode is executed at shut down instead of boot... would that protect the user from rootkits?... Having SM start at boot, doesn't BIOS/CMOS etc load up before Shadow Mode?

Well executed in shut down may not likely possible since, it design to erase any changes/ revert the changes (RAM)

Hi, can I check, while in Shadow Mode, if you perform some disk cleanup or use Cccleaner, during next reboot will it revert back to same before cleanup etc?
