Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here.

It can be especially useful for cases where:

• You need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.)
• You need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
• You need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
• You want to run a low-level utility

Disable TPM, Secure Boot and RAM requirements for Windows 11 with the latest Rufus beta

It has been a week since Windows 11 was released to the stable channel. The reception to the new iteration has been lukewarm for the most part, with most complaints targeting the Centered taskbar, Start Menu, and of course the hardware requirements that many believe have been unfairly imposed by Microsoft.

There are several ways to do that, and now we have another option to bypass the restrictions, thanks to Rufus. The popular bootable media creation tool was updated over the weekend, to a beta version. Rufus Beta 2 lets you disable TMP, Secure Boot and RAM requirements for Windows 11.

Just "burning" a W11 iso in USB pendrive using that article, will try to also create a system in VMWare...

Finally managed to install W11 Pro x64 in VMWare:



Tips: I downloaded a W11 iso, then with that Rufus Beta create the image in USB using UEFI, because in BIOS/MRB mode VMWare can boot from a USB pendrive.

My system (desktop) of course does not match W11 security:



And I had no issues during installation, I also tried that USB with "hacked W11" (burned in MBR mode) in my old lap (no TPM, no UEFI and no SecureBoot, old CPU), and the installation led me without issues to the partitioning section before installing, so I can confirm that Rufus Beta tool generates W11 that bypasses security hardware restrictions

Rufus 3.18: bypass Windows 11 system requirements during Inplace upgrades​

Up until now, Rufus supported the bypassing of Windows 11 system requirements when installing Windows 11 from scratch. The new release, Rufus 3.18, adds support for bypassing the restrictions while doing Inplace upgrades.

Inplace upgrades may be used for two main purposes: repairing a Windows installation or installing a newer feature update on the machine.

Rufus 3.18, currently available as a beta, supports the functionality now. The entire process of creating bootable media remains more or less the same.

Here is how you create bootable Windows 11 media that bypasses the restrictions for Inplace upgrades:

1. Download Rufus 3.18 Beta or newer, when released, from the GitHub project website.
2. Run the application with elevated rights.
3. Insert a USB device that you want to turn into bootable media into the PC.
   • If you already have a Windows 11 ISO image, activate the Select button and select it using the file browser that opens.
   • If you don't have a Windows 11 ISO image already, check out our guide on downloading Windows 11, or use the Fido application that has been created by the developer of Rufus to download Windows 11. Alternatively, you may also select the tiny down-arrow button next to Select in the Rufus interface to switch it to Download. Rufus downloads Fido and you may use it to download a Windows 11 ISO to your system.
4. Switch from Standard Windows 11 Installation (TPM 2.0 + Secure Boot) to Extended Windows 11 Installation (no TPM / no Secure Boot).
5. Optional: you may change the volume label but should leave most options as they are.
6. Select the Start button to create a bootable Windows 11 media that you may use to install Windows 11 from scratch or to perform Inplace repairs or upgrades with. Installation and upgrade will bypass the requirements check regarding TPM and secure boot.

Bypass Windows 11 Microsoft Account requirement and deny privacy questions during setup with Rufus​

Rufus 3.19 Beta is available for download on the project's GitHub website. The program is portable and may be run directly after its download.

The main interface of the application has not changed significantly. You may still use it to download the latest Windows ISO image from Microsoft or select an ISO that is already available on the system.

For Windows 11, users have several options to customize the installation.

• Remove requirement for Secure Boot and TPM 2.0
• Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM and 64GB+ disk.
• Disable data collection (Skip privacy questions) -- The privacy questions are skipped and processed automatically using the least invasive answer.

The options may be checked individually in the interface after activation of the Start button. The option to skip the Microsoft Account on Home and Pro versions of Windows 11 is not displayed, but it becomes active automatically, if the network connection is disabled during that stage of setup.
