Russian hackers are holding a Gold Coast medical centre to ransom after encrypting thousands of patient health records.

The hackers are demanding a ransom of $4,000 to decrypt the sensitive information held on a server at the Miami Family Medical Centre.

People often think that an AV will protect them from hackers.

Hackers rely on skills, network tools and social engineering to penetrate a system
Users can rely only on Hardware/Softwares firewalls, Honeypot and caution measures to oppose them

AVs protect vs malwares not from hackers that penetrate the system and use encryption softs (in that case).

btw, i wonder what was their security stuff...McAffee? :D

That is precisely why sandboxes, HIPS, and BB's are the future of PC security, not just corporate and government/military security.

It's kind of like trying to find a cure for cancer.There are ways to protect yourself from it and ways to fight it but there is no cure
