After Samsung discontinued production of its latest smartphone, the company is expected to bring innovative features to its next flagship. The Galaxy S8 is said to be announced in February, during MWC 2017 and rumors on the upcoming smartphone are already surfacing online.
The latest information shows that the upcoming Galaxy S8 might incorporate optical fingerprint recognition technology, being the world’s first smartphone to come with such a feature. A major change in the smartphone’s design might be the reason why the company may be giving up on the traditional fingerprint sensor.
It seems that Samsung is considering equipping the Galaxy S8 with a curved display at the top and bottom, not just on the sides. The home button will be completely removed, which means that the optical fingerprint recognition technology will be incorporated inside the screen itself, according to a post on Weibo, via SamMobile.

The scanner activates when the finger is placed on the glass display and it seems that the technology is more accurate and faster than ultrasonic fingerprint recognition. There are still about three months left until Samsung is said to announce the upcoming smartphone, plenty of time to incorporate and test out this technology.
Just yesterday, Samsung representatives refuted a rumor that suggested the Galaxy S8could be launched earlier. The smartphone will be made available in March next year.
