Samsung starts production of SSDs with a whopping 30.72TB storage capacity

Samsung today announced that they have started the mass production of ‘PM1643’ SSD which has the industry’s largest capacity of 30.72 TB. This SSD is built on the latest V-NAND technology with 64-layer, 3-bit 512-gigabit (Gb) chips. Samsung claims that this 30.72 terabyte (TB) drive delivers twice the capacity and performance of the previous 15.36TB high-capacity SSD introduced in 2016.

And they are going to be for the enterprise environment not home use. and use SCSI

I can't even fill my 4tb backup external drive... I have no idea what I would do with so much space...

wow thats big for a ssd. i have a 125 gb and only use 20. Dont know what someone need with so much space. But well, why not.

Dont know what someone need with so much space. But well, why not.

It is for enterprise backups. Not home users.

The sasmsung 15Tb ssd was U$D 10.000... so 2x space + 2x speed than the 15tb = 25-30k easy IMO...

There are cheaper and higher capacity drive arrays out there. NASA would probably have more use for a large fast storage device.
