Released on 23 April 2019.

  • Added partial support for WIndows 10 Insider -Fast ring version 18362 (still working on full support, we are aware downloads will not work from sandboxed browsers) .
Sandboxie - Download Sandboxie
Note: sandboxie.com is slow sometimes (at this time) and Forum tab is Sandboxie 04-19.png (at this time).

Well supposedly the entire site is being re-done, which, if so, would be an improvement over the circa 1999 vibe it had before. But right this second, the Sandboxie site is down. I use the "check for updates" function to test it. It's day 8 but now it appears intermittent, on-again, off-again. The advice given on "the other forum" was simply to wait it out, be patient. I can say latest v. 530 (obtained on April 23 from official Sbie site when it was briefly up) has been working as intended and the license is shown as activated. Communication with the Sandboxie website is still hit or miss.

Edit: yeah, as of 8:14 pm EST, two sites-- Is it down or is it just me and Is It Down Right Now both show Sandboxie is offline.

is it down right now.PNG

Personal I don't use the software but when any site is doing a re-done/re-make or upgrade etc, it's the site/domain owners responsibility to leave a message on the mainpage so anyone don't need to be forced look for this kind of " down/not accessible " information elsewhere. Any site/domain owner knows it's too easy to fix that kind of message and why it's not done in this case, don't know but it looks very unprofessional IMO.

Yes, upnorth! Agreed. This lack of dialog for days after the fact fueled a lot of speculation.. Still does. :emoji_neutral_face: Speaking of Sophos, should not the title of this subforum read "Sophos" and not Invincea?

If it's worth anything, late last night, I updated to Windows 10 v. 1903 via the Insiders Slow Ring. The winver is 18362.53 and so far, Sandboxie v. 5.30 is working as intended, without any error boxes, hangs or problems. Browser is Firefox and license is activated. It's way early but it seems good.

Good catch! Agree as it was sold last year but perhaps it's still here because the support and maintenance is until the end of this year?

After talking a bit with @plat1098 I decided also share here in public what I found after a smaller investigation on the access issue for sandboxie.com. This might perhaps go a bit off-topic so excuse me for that @bjm_ as the thread is yours, but at least it's the right software/site. :D

The IP is : 50.28.48.94 and even if the site itself is not responding it works very well ping the IP without any issues. The server host is :
Even the so called nameservers ( 69.16.222.254 and 69.16.223.254 ) works flawless. I checked some DDoS sources and it don't seem as the issue. Hacked in any other way, perhaps but I don't see anything conclusive. I also tried reach out to the server host ( liquidweb ) but they refused to give any information according to there security policy. Fair enough. This makes me suspect it's either the server host or the site owner them self that for some reason shutdown the access, and if one read the official information on Sophos forum page it seems that it's the site owner/s ( the staff/owner of sandboxie.com ) that pulled the plugg. I read that official note/message twice and IMO it still makes no sense. In my view it's sounds almost like they avoid something. Why, I can only guess but anyway here's the now working official support page.
Always good that official information is shared somewhere but, personal I can't help raise my eyebrows when I read information like this.
We started experiencing issues with our servers due to a bug that is causing slowness accessing the Sandboxie site, as well as the licensing/activation options. Added to that, we found a security weakness in the software being used for the forums, and out of an abundance of caution, they were taken down for the time being.
  1. There is Zero issues with the servers. Even the name servers respond and works very fast.
  2. If an actual security weakness/issue is found in a forum software ( latest version 3.2.6 released yesterday! ) and is so serious that the forum must be closed, it's common practice and knowledge to contact the developer as him/her normally then can fix the issue within 24-48 hours. sandboxie.com been down for, 12 days?
If the Sandboxie owner/s can't simply give the real customers correct and necessary information it's a disgrace IMO. For example a genuine company customer would never accept this kind of downtime. Time is money!

One thing that I did found a bit interesting, was the so called lease ( time for ownership ) on the domain sandboxie.com. It ends already 2019-06-20. That can perhaps say something what is about to happen. Hopefully not, but wouldn't be the first time or the last.

Well this is weird, but not bad. I thought to run Sandboxie unactivated as it was showing the context menu and there was no browser timer thing. The latest 5.30 worked flawlessly. Just now, I try once more to activate and blammo: it goes through. So anyone who has a license, try to activate it now. The website opens in one browser after a delay and doesn't open in another. Hit or miss. But let's see about later on, and what, if any, explanation we may get.

Sandboxie use outdated and old technology to perform sandboxing and isolation! nowadays security tools use virtualization. why would someone pay for such a product when there are more secure alternatives?
Comodo and 360 sandbox also use virtualization.

Sophos is excited to announce that we are making Sandboxie a free tool, with plans to transition it to an open source tool.
This new evolution of Sandboxie is one we are enthusiastic about, but that does not mean this was an easy decision to make. Sandboxie has never been a significant component of Sophos’ business, and we have been exploring options for its future for a while.
Frankly, the easiest and least costly decision for Sophos would have been to simply end of life Sandboxie. However, we love the technology too much to see it fade away. More importantly, we love the Sandboxie community too much to do that. The Sandboxie user base represents some of the most passionate, forward thinking, and knowledgeable members of the security community and we didn’t want to let you down.
After thoughtful consideration we decided that the best way to keep Sandboxie going was to give it back to its users – transitioning it to an open source tool. We will release more information about the open source project as we continue to work on the details.

Until the open source transition is completed we have decided to make all restricted features of Sandboxie completely free.
