DefenseWall is one of the best security products if a user opts out from using an Antivirus.

Sorry to say but you've misunderstood my post. SoftSphere Technologies doesn't offer any Antivirus Software.

You guys are forgetting one very important missing feature. Dont rant and rave for DefenseWall when they do not have a 64 bit version. 99% of new pc's are shipped with Win 7 64. So Softsphere better get with the program and make an updated version of DefenseWall 32 and 64 bit. Program is a bit outdated but still very good. But again does a HIPS really stop malicious content? No. It just deny's what it does not know. That really is not security or detection.

DefenseWall HIPS is not an antivirus. It is intended to be used as an extra layer of protection for your system and it can run side by side with your antivirus product. Some time ago we had a giveaway for DefenseWall Personal Firewall (= DefenseWall HIPS + firewall). A mini review of DW Firewall can be found here. DW acts as a policy-based sandbox preventing Untrusted apps. from harming your PC; it will also display HIPS-style pop-ups but only if the sandbox can't handle that specific action (so the number of pop-ups is really low). It is an excellent product but only for 32bit users.

I wouldn't have expected any less from DefenseWall. Of course you pass with 100% if you just deny everything. Even if its legit or not.

It won't deny everything, most HIPS products today allow software digitally signed by trusted vendors to run. This is not a perfect solution though since digitally signed malware exist and certificates can be stolen/forged (rare case, but it happens).

But just cause something is not digitally signed does not mean its malicious either. Deny the unknown and of course you will stay protected. But that is not actually detecting malware.

it is why running an HIPS alone is not recommended.

Yes of course it is not "detecting" malware. DW was not designed to detect malware because relying on detection clearly not enough.
