Some German friends said try Posteo.de it offers encryption or encryptability.

Poesteo.de is very good. Recommended! I've used it and liked it. It's 1 euro a month or was years ago. I got locked out of my account and due to security/encryption features I enabled I can't get back in (n) The password in my PWM doesn't match, so the account is gone.

On topic Proton is more mature, but Skiff looks nice too. Both look very polished and well designed.

is tutanota still around? I heard some folks prefer it to proton, or did last time I looked into it.
I just visited Skiff for first time. I skimmed privacy policy. Seemed like a lot of hedging to me, but then I did not try to compare it to Proton's...?

Yes, Tutanota is still around. I think it's equal or just a little bit better than Proton but has it's limitations. Germany vs Switzerland and how good you feel their privacy policies are the deciding factor. Premium plans are cheaper by a large amount compared to Proton. Only problem with Tutanota they disable your account if you haven't logged in for 6 months. But I've heard if you upgrade to premium plan, they reenable the account. So are they deleted or just disabled? Who knows! Haven't tested it out, I just let dormant accounts be disabled. Plus, they block Vpn's servers (Mullvad) from creating accounts which Proton doesn't. Proton allows any Vpn server to create a free account and only requires a capatcha or secondary email in most cases.

yes. all the most recent. proton, tuta, sudo, mymail, inbox, gmx apps all running well.
anti-ads/tracking DNS/VPN services are all normal practices and Skiff must work around them. FWIW I use Google's VPN with AdGuard's DNS and anti-ads service atm.

Skiff is joining Notion.
As per an email from skiff today:
“As we begin to shift focus to our shared efforts with Notion, we will be closing down Skiff's product suite after a 6-month sunset period We are deeply appreciative of the trust users have extended to us, and we are committed to honoring that trust by ensuring that all data on Skiff is easily exportable. For the next 6 months, Skiff services will continue to operate without disruption, and users can freely duplicate, migrate, or export data. You can now also set up a forwarding address to redirect mail to any other provider.”

Notion is not known to be privacy-friendly.

Further discussions from January 2024 in regards to Skiff.

Well, there goes another one...

Dammit, their @mydomain.maskmy.id Quick Alias's were an awesome feature.

Oh well, down to tuta.io now...

Yeah,

Proton was my first 'secure' service way back when the only thing they did was a VPN. I really like their stuff

I have just had another look at their products and they are talking about desktop apps for MacOS and Linux which is good to see as they were not offering those in the past. So a definate maybe there

Vivaldi, nah. I want a standalone product specialising in email. I've tried Bridges and API integrations before and find them unreliable.

Tuta is great though, and, as far as I know, they are still the only company that you can buy and operate a totally anonymous email service through via Monero crypto and a TOR address. No personal details required, just a crypto wallet... very handy... and definately private.

A few more options - Eclipso, Soverin, Posteo, Lycos, Mailo, Inbox, Ceznam, Zoho, Yandex, Swisscows, AOL, Yahoo, Sudomail, My, GMX, Mail.
Some of these are ##### but free. Some are okay and free. Some are ##### and paid. Some are okay and paid. My dad had an Excite account which only wound up
a year or so ago and they gave him a free bluetiehome account to migrate to. Somehow Lycos is still running. My little nieces use Swisscows and like it. I have used
Eclipso and (apart from no English website) it's been okay for me.

...Boom...

Wow, thanks. Well I'm not interested in free service's, prefer FOSS products, must have a Linux desktop client and at least some sort of recent audit trail. Should cut the list a bit.

I'll checkout the products you mentioned. Really the only one that interest's me is Swisscows, but I am a little suspicious abouit their 'ethics' stand on search-engine moderation. I mean, I understand it, but who's ethics...? A little too 'Big Brother' for mine...

Also, the ability to pay with Monero with zero KYC is a nice feature with Tuta. Tuta is the only one I can find. Proton run a .onion portal, but its still heavily KYC and only accepts USD, CHF or EUR via CC.
