Using the registered version allows you to have multiple sandboxes open at the same time. You can also "force" programs and folders to open sandboxed.

This are nice features that make Sandboxie more automatic since you wont have to right click on files to open sandboxed but either vesrion is great and will keep you clean if you learn how to use it properly.

The other point of difference between free and paid is the nag screen, which appears for 5 seconds after you've installed SB for more than 30 days, but this has to be the only nag screen that doesn't bother me at all.

Using sandbox shortcuts works great for people using the free version but it does not give you what you get with the forced programs feature. You can get a program to open sandboxed when you click on the shortcut but you still need to navigate to the file in order for the file to run under the supervision of SBIE. Also, if you click on a file, that file wont open sandboxed just because you have a sandbox shortcut for that program in your desktop. So, its not the same but its nice that you mentioned the usefulness of creating and using sandbox shortcuts. I think everybody that uses the free version should have some of them in their taskbar or desktop.

Nate, remember, we also have the ability to force folders to open sandboxed on the registered version. That and being able to open many programs at the same time and "in their own sandbox" is really what makes getting the paid version worth something.

Being able to create and use many sandboxes give us the ability to separate programs from each other. That makes isolation work better.

By using the paid version you can create sandboxes not only for each of your browsers but also for your mail client, USB drives, CD and DVD drives and for programs like your video players, PDF readers. The best part of it is that you can open each of the programs that you want to run under SBIE in their own sandbox and by doing so, the restrictions can be set accordingly to the program or purpose that you created the sandbox for. It works great, get the paid version, its worth it.

I'm not questioning the merits of the registered version and the additional features it makes available at all, I'm thankful to Ronen Tzur for the vision and technical ability to change the paradigm, and what's more, the integrity to give us a truly full featured free version as well.

Registered or Free, we enjoy the same levels of strong protection, and that's the important part.
