Hello,
Yesterday, I sought help for my cannon printer on the website because I could not get the printer to hook up to my new modem. There was a chat feature and I started a chat with someone I thought was from Cannon. I allowed them to take control of my computer. I was on the phone with them I thought it was legitimate. While they were talking they got into my computer through MSDOS. They tried to say that foreign people were using my Internet ports because I did not have a networking firewall. That left no port for the cannon printer to connect to my wifi. They wanted me to speak with a networking specialist. Then I got suspicious and ended the conversation and disconnected so they were no longer controlling my computer. I called the Geek Squad to check my computer and help with the printer. They ran their scans and downloaded a driver and my printer is working. I am concerned because the scammer was looking for my IP address. I have a file a png image that he downloaded of a network firewall that is still on my computer and might be harmless. Anyhow, is there anyway they can access my passwords. Is the png file in my download folder harmful? I did have the Geeksquad check but I wanted to make sure. Thanks. I am not trying to waste anyone's time.

Hello

If you need assistance for malware infection, you should open a new post here:

Malware Removal Assistance For Windows

In this forum section, I can only suspect that the scammer may have had access to your sensitive files and documents.
If you keep the password in the clear on a text document for example, the risk is that a malware, or unauthorized access to your PC (using scam as in your case) could actually steal your passwords.

My advice: change immediately your passwords and login information to mitigate any damages.

Always encrypt your sensitive data using Winrar, SecureMyBit or creating a virtual encrypted partition using Steganos.

Thanks, I have my passwords in my head. I do not write them on any document. I will change them now. I want to get rid of this file on my computer. I know if I delete it that it will still be on there. I will post in the other thread. Thanks again.
