Hi! It's our home computer.
It was infected when I visited a website that told me I needed to download a new font for chrome to display the website properly. I can't believe I fell for it.

Yes, there is an acronym for 90% of computer issues.

Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair = PEBKAC
Urban Dictionary: pebkac

As you probably know and realized, there is no fix for your files, but you already have backup so that's very good. Fix below will remove the ransomware message. Please let me know if I can be of more help, but that's basically it.

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Amazing! Seems like it worked. The Fixlog.txt is on my desktop and the ransomware message didn't pop up when the computer restarted.

I will work with Carbonite to see if they can restore my files tomorrow. It is too late tonight to call them.

Thanks so much, beer sent!
