On Spotify, users discover and enjoy music, podcasts, and audiobooks. So that we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience, we occasionally update our prices. Over the next month, subscribers in the U.S. will receive an email (pictured below) explaining what this update means for their subscription. For new subscribers in the U.S., the new prices are:

Individual Duo Family Student
$11.99 $16.99$19.99$5.99

Spotify announced price hikes for its international subscribers last month, so these price increases aren’t just affecting US subscribers. Bloomberg reported last month that Spotify also reportedly still plans to launch its “Supremium” plan, with lossless streaming and other features. Some Spotify users have even noticed a Dolby Atmos logo on the app’s Now Playing screen in recent months, suggesting that this could be part of the Supremium feature set.

The price adjustment for Spotify subscriptions in the U.S. will be as follows: Individual - $11.99, Duo - $16.99, Family - $19.99, and Student - $5.99. This price increase is not exclusive to the U.S., as international subscribers also experienced a hike recently. The introduction of a "Supremium" plan is also anticipated, potentially including features like lossless streaming and Dolby Atmos.

The internet started seeing the downfall of piracy when companies like Spotify or Netflix rised, offering access to lots of content for an affordable price.

Now, you're imposed several different music services, TV/CINEMA streaming services, and none has all the material you need, forcing you to suscribe to many services which prices only go up.

When piracy becomes the standard practice again, users will again be blamed and the story will repeat itself.

If you need something to watch, I'd recommend The Playlist miniseries on Netflix. It tells a story of Spotify from the beginning and shows problems in music industry from different angles. It's well made, interesting and really won't bore you to death.
