Spyware Terminator 3 has been released today. They have gotten rid of the ClamAV engine they used to have in v2. They have added the F-Prot engine but from what I have read at some different forums you have to buy the pro version to get the F-Prot engine. They still have their anti-malware engine in the free version and it seems to have redone their UI.

Not bad for F-Prot even isn't the best at all, as Spyware Terminator have their own engine. Since its optional users may stick to the free version.

eicar test file is file that simulate the eicar malware, it means you can use it to test the reactivity of your AV realtime guard, for example Comodo AV detected it at the download page, Emsisoft AM detect it when you unzip the file, and Webroot SA failed to detect it (in my system).

Also based on my understanding, the free version also includes their known siteadvisor called "Web Security Guard" that can also blocked malicious websites.

Link, they have also standalone free version.

Hopefully this link explains a lot about client to client for the process of update.

If you are downloading an update from another Spyware Terminator user, you become a "pear". The update is downloaded from other users called "seeds" and "peers".
Pear is a user who is downloading an update and simultaneously distributes the download to other users.
Seed is a user who has a complete copy of the update and continues to offer it for upload.
Download speed is influenced by the number of users who are downloading/sharing it at a given moment. The more seeders there are, the better the download speed will be. The number of seeds and peers for each file is displayed in the Spyware Terminator update window.
so as I thought, they're using a P2P network =). Thanks for the link !

Don't know if this is good though... some users have data limits + some users will get updates earlier than others ???

The Web Security Guard is a (checked by default) toolbar, I chose not to install it.

How does the Free version use realtime protection without an AV, is it only AntiSpyware or does it have it's own engine? If anyone could explain would be good. Thanks :D

Free version is their own Anti-Malware engine and in the past they offered the ClamAV engine in the free I don't know if its still there.

Probably ST3 can manage now to detect viruses even with zero day malware since they are using own engine except for F-prot which is optional. So they removed Clamav Engine.
